tekrc Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 I know about the option in the ME to start with a pre stored heading. not what I mean. how do I after a flight, store the heading for a future alignment? (my group takes breaks mid mission sometimes so this would be helpful if one of us stops for dinner or whatever)
sLYFa Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 From what I understand in the manual (the real one), it is sufficient to select INS before powering off the WCS. This should automatically store the current alignment as the reference alignment for a subsequent stored heading alignment. The natops is a little scarce on that however (Chapter 20.3.2 in F14AAA-1). I don't know if this is modeled in DCS though. i5-8600k @4.9Ghz, 2080ti , 32GB@2666Mhz, 512GB SSD
Super Grover Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 (edited) Do full fine alignment, switch to INS, then switch the NAV MODE knob to OFF. Releasing the parking brake will remove the ability to perform a stored heading alignment. tekrc Posted March 19, 2019 Author Posted March 19, 2019 so just land, parking brake on, turn ins to off and heading is stored automatically?
Super Grover Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 No, it's impossible to store heading after a flight. Krzysztof Sobczak Heatblur Simulations https://www.facebook.com/heatblur/
tekrc Posted March 20, 2019 Author Posted March 20, 2019 No, it's impossible to store heading after a flight. that doesnt make any sense. if a heading can be stored, it shouldnt matter if its just after aligning or after flying
QuiGon Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 It does matter, because after flying it has drifted. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
tekrc Posted March 20, 2019 Author Posted March 20, 2019 (edited) I know that and never said drift didnt matter... what doesnt make sense to me is why I need to shut down the whole plane again instead of just doing the align over to get a stored heading to save. I dont see why one cant land, get the new heading aligned, shut down, and have the stored heading. Edited March 20, 2019 by tekrc
Super Grover Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 You don't have to shut down. If you land, do another fine alignment and store heading, it should work even with the engines running. The only thing that won't work is: do a fine alignment, fly, land, shut down, do ASH. However, a sequence that will works is: do a fine alignment, fly, land, do a fine alignment, shut down, ASH. Super Grover Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 At this stage it's slightly simplified and all you have to do is cycle the NAV MODE knob to OFF and then to ALIGN. Krzysztof Sobczak Heatblur Simulations https://www.facebook.com/heatblur/
