CBStu Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 I am a maybe a 4 month newbie at DCS after a 10-15 yr break from flying most of the MS sims. I got a VKB Gladiator stick for one reason, that I don't want to go to pedals for a while. The stick is very good in every way except the throttle. Moving a small near zero effort (although perfectly smooth) lever about 1.5 inches total travel just wasn't helping my straight-in carrier traps. So I kept looking around at options and finally gulped and bought a TM Warthog Throttle. Got it yesterday and have just the throttle working- no other buttons at all so far. 3 hrs yesterday and 3 hrs today and I have to say, this thing is absolutely wonderful. Having a real throttle w/ 4-5 inches of travel and a perfect feel ( I am surprised I have the friction at the minimum) is so much more flyable it is unbelievable. I have even made a couple of pattern traps. They are ugly, but now my problem is not so much getting altitude correct, as getting the final lineup correct. Was it worth the $? If I weren't doing carrier traps maybe not, but I am, and it is a fantastic improvement. And I haven't even explored how much I can get away from the keyboard w/ all these buttons.
ravenzino Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 Good call. I guess your aerial refueling and formation flying will also benefit from that.
