GrEaSeLiTeNiN Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 (edited) Hi, when I set a manual radio frequency in the UFC, sometimes the display for AM/FM selection is empty (which is not right?) and consequently I get no response from the ATC. What am I doing wrong? Thanks [btw, why was my post title changed? It's not the same meaning.] Edited March 30, 2019 by GrEaSeLiTeNiN AMD Ryzen 5 5600X | Gigabyte RTX 3070 Gaming OC 8GB | 64GB G.SKILL TRIDENT Z4 neo DDR4 3600Mhz | Asus B550 TUF Plus Gaming | 2TB Aorus Gen4 TM Warthog HOTAS | TrackIR 5 | Windows 10 Home x64 | My HOTAS Profiles
CBStu Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 I had that problem also w/ the Stennis in a mission I created that is similar to the instant action Case 1 Carrier recovery. Supposedly 127.500 is what the carrier Stennis radio is on but setting that in the FA18 there was no AM and I couldn't make it work. So I went to mission editor and changed the Stennis channel to 305.000 and that works in the FA18 also. BTW I also set the Stennis TACAN and ICLS channels to 1. So when I am setting those up in the FA18 I don't need to hit clear and then channel # buttons. When you hit 'On', the channel window always pops up with a 1 already there, so I just hit enter.

In the custom mission editor I used Groom Lake AFB and it auto provided a few frequencies in the generated briefing screen. But only one (or two?) of the frequencies had AM appear in the UFC display and worked. The others had no AM or FM (display was blank) and couldn't work -> no response from ATC. So basically it seems you need to pick a frequency (among those given in the briefing screen) that will have its corresponding AM/FM appear in the UFC display. Why this is so I am not sure. CBStu Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 .... Why this is so I am not sure. Me either but fortunately it is an easy fix IF you have some understanding of mission editor. And mission editor is a whole other learning curve.
Knives Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 Maybe I'm wrong, but as I remember there is a section in the manual talking about radio operation. In that section there is some frequencies ranges that are only FM, ranges are only AM and ranges could either AM or FM. Maybe you selected a frequency in AM only range. hence, you could not change it to FM.

But then I started switching channels in the FA-18 radio looking for one where the Am had the colon showing up. 305 had the colon so i switched the Stennis 305 and all is well.
