The HUD panel has green tinge, which I assume is supposed to simulate the glow coming from the light source.

However, the panel seems to have a relatively high level of opacity, which results in the panel going completely green in direct sunlight.

Realistically there should be no opaque elements on the windscreen that catch sunlight in this way and obscure the view.

The windscreen has a coating with which to reflect the HUD projection. The reflection of the HUD collimator lens would often show on the center windscreen.

Does this depend on the HUD being on or off BTW? Just asking since I've seen that also with the whole thing shut down...

and because there's a similar effect on the Ka-50's combiner glasses that doesn't show up when it's HUD is not on and gets less strong when you tone down it's brightness.

As a sitenote, I don't have issues with that. Just being curious.

It doesn't. The old hud's had a selectively reflective coating on them. They were tuned to reflect Green Light. What you're seeing is the ambient light's green spectrum being reflected back at you instead of being able to pass through the glass like all the other wavelengths. And because the coatings work in both directions that frequency of green light also doesn't show through the glass from the outside either.

As for the KA, most likely the image generator itself was just bad at black and so leaked "grey" like a crappy projector or cheap monitor makes black look grey.
