So is it?

I have read a few times on this board of people wishing for ED to open up Lockon to the community for us to be able to mod it to a better extent, such as changing flight models and things that right now the average modder must work around. With that being said, was Flanker 2.5 ever made so that the community had open access to it to change such things as flight models and junk?

I ask because I just want to know how much of a reality that Lockon will be "open" if you will. When I ask this, I am not asking on a basis of soon, but instead a long time after BS is released, several years, like when ED moves on to Tank Killers or something of another nature differnet from Lockon. I get the feeling that if ED has not given such access to Flanker 2.5 then neither would they for Lockon.

I guess I am just trying to futher paint the picture in my mind for the future of Lockon after Black Shark!

As far as I can remember in Flanker 2.5 the cockpit could be modded to about the same degree as Lock On ...

But to change the FM? I don't recall anyone ever doing this..

But you can actually see for yourself.. Go to UBI forums and bring up the Flanker forum... Most of what had been addressed you'll be able to access by using the search function...

You need the source code in order to make any changes to flight model and that's not gonna happen, at least not in the near future. ;)

THE source code for Falcon 4 been out for 10 years and no one have added a true flyable yet in this whole time. Only F-16 clones with sligthly different flightmodels.

Infact..

if we could change the speed of these babes..

with speed, and weight alteration, ability to add engines or change the places of engines..we can FAKE a different flight model..

dont you think?..

Like i wish i knew how to change the power of engines..

in that way ( and weight adjust) we can FAKE the flymodel of bombers..

tankers. Or jets for that matter..

Or even if ED could release a text document of cocpit arguments..

ppl could make a new cockpit from scratch..Just like the models of aircrafts..

I understand where you are coming from, but this thread was not about what such and such wishes for, but instead what has actually happened in the past to make similar happen:thumbup:

Flanker was a great deal more closed up than Lock-on - e.g. there were no open files like Lock-on's xml files or lua scripts to play with.

Thanks Alfa, that was the answer I was looking for.

You are welcome :)

So from what I can conclude, we as a community should consider ourselves lucky to be able to mod what we can!

Well certainly if the subject of comparison is Flanker(!) - "modding" back then pretty much boiled down to texturing projects and even that came with severe limitations due to the 3D fidelity level of the time :) .

There have been cases of high quality flyables added to sims. The falcon four community simply isn't the only heavily modded sim in history.

Flanker 1.5 there was an ability to edit the weapon loads, so we could do better with flanker 2. The source code could be useful but I doubt it would do much better than EECH.

No, it's not. Because Flanker 2.5 and LO is very similiar code wise, so some guys having fun with extreme moddability of Flanker may decide to import his new flight model to LO, which devs definitely not want us to do so ATM.

Not only that, but it would also efectively destroy this SIM, no matter how much everybody would think to improve it, or how many good intentions we all would have. At least as far as online gaming is concerned, wich is the strongest aspect of this game IMHO. There would be 10 different versions to fit 10 different tastes... at least. Devide the 80 or so players at any time by all versions and you get alot more lonely guys waiting in vain for someone else just like the few 1.02 guys do nowadays. :)
