Just been down to the local shops and pride of place in the TV section was a $9000 Samsung 65” 8k tv.

Is this going to be the next test for Computing power or will it just upscale 4K?

The sales pitch recons this is almost perfect vision and will be the last resolution as you won’t be able to see and benefit with any more pixels.

So have we reached the final resolution we will all be watching in 40 years time??

Is anyone jumping on the 8k train soon??

Some people say that we will be able to talk about 8k with the release of the ps5 or at least three years later when PC components will be released and those will be decidedly superior to those we have now

I thought next gen consoles were about the streaming games as a service, not increased graphics?

The only way the ps5 will be handling 8k is through upscaling.

Unless it is a quad GPU monster machine and the console cost over $4k.

And I'm honestly not sure there will be any native 8k content whatsoever.

Some live tv broadcasters have tried, but that was mostly to get into record books than anything, and only used for Olympic level sporting events.

Movies are still getting their post-fx treatment done in 2k, even when released on UHD blueray, that would probably change someday, but not likely before 2030 would be my guess.

As for streaming, a few nations might be ready but that is far from most. And even in areas with decently built coverage only about 30% of households has capacity for streaming 4k.

And that is before we consider limiting ISP like download caps.

Agree with others, 4k has just barely established a foothold in both gaming and TV/streaming. 8k is interesting for sure, I haven't seen one up close yet and would like to see the difference between a good 4k screen and an 8k one.

The bandwidth just isn't there yet to support it for many internet users for TV/streaming, but mostly it's the CPU/GPU bottleneck for 4k gaming that keeps it from becoming more mainstream IMO. I have a couple $2k 27" 4k 144hz gaming desktop monitors, but I find that the 1440p resolution and monitors is the best option for gaming right now, even with a 9900k cpu and 2080ti/nv link system. Don't get me wrong, 4k is absolutely doable with many gaming titles right now, and playable FPS are maintainable now, but there are $ barriers in the way for many, which is holding 4k let alone 8k back.

Still, in a few years it'll be interesting to see where we're all at regarding both TV and gaming LCD resolution and performance.
