A Little Different Question

First off, let me say I can land on the boat just fine. I just don't enjoy it and it bothers me that the plane is taking off for me. I enjoy taking off and landing on airfields. I may not be the only one.

 

I understand the Hornet is a Navy plane. However, the Marines use it too. Do the Marines always use a boat for a base or do they use airfields a lot too? If someone wanted to always use airfields. Would they have any missions or even a campaign for Marine planes on airfields?

 

I know. Fly a different plane if that's what I want to do but I thought i'd ask.

I think Marines used both - carrier and land airfields, according to when they are based.

Most Marine squadrons are stationed on land and don’t use the carrier. However a ome Marines do go to the boat and join the Carrier Air Wing. As of right now, I’m pretty sure the only boat squadron is VMFA-312, but in the past there have been some more squadrons that were deployed on a carrier.

And since you are asking about missions (combat, I suppose), yes, Marine Hornet squadrons have also deployed to airfields during actual conflicts like in the Gulf Wars for example.

I must admit i'm surprised there aren't more land-based missions/campaigns for the F-18. After all, pretty much every export operator of the Hornet never has their planes go anywhere near a carrier.

No, there aren't campaign for VMFA Hornet squadron's yet. But I think in future we will have a lot of campaigns, when we have all of Hornet stuffs - TPOD, JSOW and other things.

I don't know of any nation that has the capability for carrier launch/recovery of F/A-18 flights since nobody except Spain has a carrier, and it certainly can't do it.

 

My own little mini-missions are primarily for Land based attacks but always have an option for a stripped bird hop to the boat for refueling and rearming.

 

Hopefully the good mission creators will adopt that kind of planning in the future.

Hi here are some of my missions for the F18

 

These missions where designed to be played in multiplayer together with allot of different planes/helis so that as many pilots could join.

The missions are rather simple, but give them a try. All of them start on land

 

copy paste the missions into the location of your mission folder typical located like this..

C:\Users\xxxxxYOUR-NAMExxxx\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Missions

 

airport stike fly low inbetween mountains and bomb runway

milosovic strike you have to bomb a chemical factory ect.

enemy offiensive is near the coast where two bridges need to be bombed, and stop the enemy offensive.

( no air refuel in any of the missions by the way )
