FatSlapper Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 I use the stable version of DCS (latest as of this post) and all through the early access for the F-18 my autopilot constantly drifts upward both in radar <5000ft. and baro. I did as people suggest and made a dead zone on my WH(engage AP with no pitch).. this did not help! I'm posting as I don't see anyone else reporting this sort of drift. Many YouTube videos including Wags show rock solid autopilot behavior. I have read what little docs there are on this subject to no avail. Is this a known wip issue or am I missing something???
Knives Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 What Autopilot mode do you select? (Attitude hold, BALT hold, RALT hold) I use both stable and open beta and both are OK.
FatSlapper Posted May 12, 2019 Author Posted May 12, 2019 "both in radar <5000ft. and baro". That's what I don't get! why am I the only one??? It works but it just drifts upward.. I have to disengage it with the paddle switch..
Knives Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 A track file would help. But for RALT hold below 5000ft, the Autopilot would try to keep the same set altitude. For example if the terrain below changes or sloped upward for example then the Autopilot would try to follow it and drift upward. (RALT is bad when there are buildings or hills) Try to engage the RALT when you're above flat surfaces like the sea and see what happen.
Preendog Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Fatslapper, I didn't see altitude hold AP ever engage in that track. You must have the stick perfectly centered or it will not engage. If your stick is jittery, you have to do something about that. You also don't have to press the on/off button. Just pressing the BALT or RALT button is sufficient. You should see the ":" next to BALT or RALT when it engages.
FatSlapper Posted May 13, 2019 Author Posted May 13, 2019 It is engaging as I said before! I have to disengage it with the paddle switch . i know the ":" lights come on sometimes but it is engaged. Many Youtube videos show no special action to use the autopilot.....
FatSlapper Posted May 13, 2019 Author Posted May 13, 2019 I wonder if this is a multi monitor issue? I use triple monitors...
Preendog Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 I mean, in the track I see you mashing the RALT button, but the : next to the button never appears. Might just be a track issue.
Scofflaw Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 Does RALT or BALT appear on the left DDI? If not, it's not engaged. run come save me
Nospin44 Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 Is your INS aligned and set to nav? I had an incident with autopilot last night when during a flight I forgot that INS is now modelled and i never let it alogn. So when I set Balt AP, it continually was climbing right out of autopilot. Honestly not sure if autopilot depends on INS but I would assume so.
FatSlapper Posted May 18, 2019 Author Posted May 18, 2019 Got It! Thanks all had to put a large dead zone on my WH stick 15 percent, degrees, units, whatever that is.....
