I recently came across a picture of Me with some friends and the Secretary of the Navy during Ronald Reagan presidency. I scanned it and posted it on photobucket. I did a search on the Net. found Mr. William L. Ball and forward him the photo.

Here's what my e-mail said and His response..

Me:

Mr. William L. Ball, Good morning sir.

After going through some pictures I had of my Navy days, I came across a picture that you might enjoy. I was serving on board the USS Forrestal back in 87-91. You came to visit us an subsequently took a picture with a few of my crew. I'm Luis Cardenas, in the picture I'm in the middle second to your left. The Mexican looking one..

I just thought I send you this picture and bring back some memories of when you were our Secretary of the Navy..

Thank you for your service sir..

His response:

Petty Officer Cardenas:

Thank you so much for sending me this picture, and it does indeed bring back memories of my visit aboard FORRESTAL. I saw her recently alongside the pier in Newport, and it was sad to see such a great ship now decommissioned. I appreciate your going to the trouble to share this with me, and send along to you my best wishes and my appreciation for your service in a very important time in our Navy’s history.

Sincerely,

Will Ball

I was so happy that He took the time off his busy schedule, just to respond to the surprise picture and to reflect; if only with a few words on times gone by and the day when our paths crossed on-board My good old Ship The USS Forrestal CV-59..
