I know I am still rocking an old rig, but at the moment its doing me fine for what I play in DCS, I am rarely down low and dirty.

So I put on Task Manager and GPU-Z and it shows the following:

(its usually about 35 - 40 FPS - I was just in a town when I took this)

Settings.

So by reading this I probably still have 50% overhead in my CPU at 3.6ghz and I could tune it up as its stock at moment.

The R9 200 bless it is 100% throughout every flight.

Memory is up to 80% but its only 16gb of some 1600mhz so to be expected.

I do have on the horizon a new rig, just purchased a new 1TB SSD and I am thinking of the GFX card next and then the MOBO, CPU and Memory in a couple of months time but how quick will that 50% overhead get used up with a new GFX card?

You need to click on the "Open Resource Monitor" on your CPU performance tab so you can track individual CPU usage. Remember, average CPU performance will never give you the true picture. You need to see how each core is doing

your biggest advantage would be faster RAM & overall better throughput with modern chipsets.

From the pure 1-core power, I dont know if yours is overclocked, but a 2600k can still push a lot if somewhere at ~4.5-5G. Most can easily do 4+ on all cores as you might already know.

So if yours is highly overclocked, you wont gain much there anyways.

Push the GPU as far as money allows and cool & OC that Sandy ;)

Is it normal to see 99%-100% usage for the GPU? Everything else was just cruising.

Yes BuzzU, as long s you do not cap your fps your GPU should always be fully used. If it is not, and you have no cap lock, then your CPu cant fill the GPU ! = CPU bottleneck.

his GPU is fully used and the CPU still has headroom on that 1 core, may not even be overclocked to it's full extend yet as well.

How I loved that CPU
