Necc Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 (edited) Is there a way to reset the maverick (IRMV) to the designated target point of the DMT without undesignating the target and losing the initial lock from the DMT? For E.g. If I designate a tank with the DMT, uncage mavericks; select and and slew the maverick seeker around a bit, can I reset the maverick seeker back to the dmt without having to undesignate and start the process again using the TVV? If I attempt to lock a target with the maverick seeker (let's say it fails to lock), it switches to maverick slew mode, but I want to use the dmt slew mode to designate targets, so how do I reset the maverick slew to the dmt? Because it seems the maverick slew data is still saved on the HUD (if that makes sense). Edited June 21, 2019 by Necc

Necc Posted June 21, 2019 Author Posted June 21, 2019 Cage -> Sensor Select Aft 2x for FMT TV -> Uncage -> Sensor Select Vor for IR (uncaged maverick). I tried this and it doesn't work; the maverick seeker is still looking at a different location from the DMT. I'm probably doing something wrong here...
Ramsay Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 (edited) I tried this and it doesn't work; the maverick seeker is still looking at a different location from the DMT. I'm probably doing something wrong here... You are likely uncaging the IRMAV too soon. My workflow goes like this: Prep and target acquisition • A/G Mode • Sensor Select Aft Twice = DMT-TV on RH MPCD • EHSD on LH MPCD, select waypoint and designate as Target Point - (RH MPCD = DMT-INS unless TGT +/- 30° of nose) • Stores page on LH MPCD, select IRMAV • Master Arm ON • Turn to attack vector (TGT +/- 30° of nose) • RH MPCD should switch to DMT-TV • Cycle Sensor Select Aft if top left RH MPCD doesn't say "TV" • Slew DMT-TV to target if necessary (note: updates Target Point) IRMAV Launch cycle • Uncage IRMAV (cage button) • LH MPCD displays IR image, seeker slews to target point, FOV as req'ed • Cycle Sensor Select Forward until top left of MPCD's say "IRMV" • When in range - TDC Down (depress) to lock or slew IRMAV until tracking gates close. • Pickle to fire 1st IRMAV, LH MPCD shows stores page • RH MPCD shows DMT-INS (INS top left) • Sensor Select Aft to switch to DMT-TV (TV top left) • Slew DMT-TV to next target (updates Target Point/Diamond) Cycle then repeats: • Uncage IRMAV (cage button) • LH MPCD displays IR image, seeker slews to target point, FOV as req'ed • Cycle Sensor Select Forward until top left of MPCD's say "IRMV" • When in range - TDC Down (depress) to lock or slew IRMAV until tracking gates close. • Pickle to fire 2nd IRMAV, LH MPCD shows stores page • RH MPCD shows DMT-INS (INS top left) • Sensor Select Aft to switch to DMT-TV (TV top left) • Slew DMT-TV to next target (updates Target Point/Diamond) ... etc. etc. Sample track attached. Necc Posted June 21, 2019 Author Posted June 21, 2019 (edited) My understanding is that when you press TDC down (with IRMV selected) the maverick seeker will attempt to lock the target the dmt is pointed at. My problem is once you press TDC down with IRMV, you are engaging the maverick's independent seeker slew ability. If for whatever reason the maverick seeker locks an unintended target in close proximity to where the dmt was looking -there's no way to reslave the maverick seeker to where the dmt was looking without having to either use the maverick slew controls or undesignating the target altogether. I guess this is how it actually is supposed to work - and I'll be honest, it's not really that much of a problem. Uncaging the maverick will cause the seeker to slave to the last place it was slewed, assuming you have manually designated a target with the maverick's seeker independent of the DMT or INS. Ramsay Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 I guess this is how it actually is supposed to work - and I'll be honest, it's not really that much of a problem. Uncaging the maverick will cause the seeker to slave to the last place it was slewed, assuming you have manually designated a target with the maverick's seeker independent of the DMT or INS. It looks like a bug as stepping to another missile station or unboxing IRMV on the stores page doesn't reset track mode, only : • Launching a missile (doesn't have to be the one used to enter IRMV track mode) • Undesigating the target designation and IRMV track mode. • Exceeding the seeker gimbal limit (so it self cages) AND then uncaging so it self cages a second time. To replicate the bug : • designate a TP (target point) with the DMT, etc. • enter IRMV mode, but don't attack the TP • instead slew the IRMV cross hairs to another target vehicle, etc. (IRMV in track mode) • Cage the IRMAV, etc. • Even with the maverick caged and no video feed, the HUD shows the IRMV tracking square. • Step to another missile station. • Re-attack, uncage the second missile, it's INS is tracking the same point. • Launch the 2nd selected missile. • Step to the 1st missile again on the stores page. • Uncage it, it slaves to the Target Point again. • Slew the IRMV to another target, and allow it to lock (IRMV in track mode) • Break off the attack • When the IR seeker exceeds is limits and the stores page appears, uncage a second time to reset the IR track mode. • Re-attack, • once the DMT-TV is tracking the TP, uncage the IRMAV, you will see it slaves to TP Comments What I'd expect :- switching weapon stations or weapons modes (IRMV unboxed), I'd expect Maverick track mode to reset as the tracking is specific to the missile and not from a AV-8B system or TP. I'm not sure if on reaching the gimbal limit the IRMAV should turn off the video feed or if the video should move with the aircraft - the reason I say that is I think the IRMAV might be in track mode only as long as there is a video feed i.e. caging the IR seeker might break track unless INS/POS is selected. i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440
