I currently have the 850 EVO 250GB SSD as my (3rd) F: drive which is used exclusively for DCS, and it's starting to run out of space.

I would like to replace it with 1TB 860 EVO, making this my new F: drive.

I have USB3.0 caddy for 2.5" drives.

I see the Samsung migration software will only work if the source drive has OS installed.

So I don't have to spend ages reinstalling DCS and modules, could I get away this process?

1. Connect new 1TB drive to USB and format single partition NTFS

2. Copy/Paste F:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics to new 1TB drive over USB

3. Swap SSD drives internally

4. Change new drive letter to F:

5. Go flying!

Thanks, R

Yes, that should work ... since external drives usually are faster at reading than at writing, I would first extract from the case the current drive F, put the new drive on its place, put the old drive on the external caddy and then copy onto the new disk.

While you have the PC open, check to see if there is a free Sata port (and power adaptor), so that you may have the two SSD drives connected simultaneously, even if that may mean having the case open while you do the copy.

As the two drives are similar, label them with adhesive paper, in order no ton confuse them.

Good luck.

CrystalDiskInfo is a must if you have a lot of similar drives. And you don't even have to change the drive letters if you change the shortcut to point to the new drive. Enjoy the bigger drive.
