Can't set plane controls

How does one select the game aircraft controls. Here is the context. I am checking out DCS and I have the P-51D. I want to use 'GENERAL' controls rather than P-51D Real or even EASY. I have tried clicking the gear icon and choosing controls and then the set I want. But when I go into an instant action it will always use the REAL. My only work around is to pause, escape, again choose the control set I want and then continue the game.

Hi. It doesnt work that way ... the "Easy" control set is used when you select Options -> Misc -> tick on "Game avionics mode" .. if that is not ticked, then DCS uses the "Sim" control set.

 

I have no idea about the "General" control set .. at first I assumed that it was a way to set default keys that superseded the keys assigned on the individual aircrafts Sets, but it doesnt work that way and the DCS Manual doesnt even mention it.

No idea what are you really acomplishing with that workaround ... but if you are using the free TF-51D instead of the payware P-51D, then the control sets you must use are the TF-51 ones and not the P-51D ones.

Thanks Rudel. I got that. But if I save a profile and I want to use that when is the right time to load it. Right now I am waiting until I start an instant action.

The Save facility on the Controls Option Page is mostly to allow you to save a backup of your bindings, I never use it, as it is more effective to backup the controls of all my aircrafts simply by backing up my /saved games/dcs/config/ folder (when dcs is not running).

 

Here is a very old video that explains better how to use the Controls page .. fortunately, DCS has not changed on that aspect, so the video is still useful ... and I rather watch a video produced by a superb instructor, than watch a newer video made by a person that doesnt explain clearly :)
