Hey everyone, I appreciate all the response I got on my last computer rig post, but I have another one for y’all. Thanks for bearing with me as I’ve done quite a bit of research and still feel lost on a lot of computer related things especially as it pertains to DCS as that is the only thing I need it for.

So I decided to up my budget and go for a really good system to go with the oculus rift s….. below attached is a setup I just recently configured on ibuypower and am considering purchasing. But before dropping that kind of cash I want to be sure I understand what I’ve done, what I need and it’s the best possible setup for what I want. So here are some questions I’m still trying to figure out if you guys have some insight. Please remember, when I started my research in preparation for my sim project my level of computer knowledge and skills is this…….more GB is good, less is bad. Power button turns on, shut down turns off…..I’m learning pretty much everything else on the fly and my terminology is terrible.

1. Does anyone know anything about the GeForce Titan RTX 24GB (GDDR6)….I have no idea what GDDR6 is or what it does but I assume 24GB on a video card is better than 11GB….but it does carry an extra $1600. The “worth it” factor really depends on the individual, even “slightly better” may be worth it to some, question is how much better is this than the 2080Ti.

2. On the topic of video cards, does DCS allow for use of dual cards? If so will 2 high end cards significantly enhance the graphics?

3. The Z390 Motherboard….Ibuypower has a ton of options for the same motherboard….why? are they really any different other than having an extra few USB ports?

4. From my research an 850 Watt 80+ Gold power supply should do for the above specs. Is there any reason I should go with 1000 watt 80+ platinum? And do those do ok plugged into a regular US home outlet?

5. M.2/PCI-E SSD Card vs. Primary SSD…….I tried to research these and still don’t get it. I set both to 2 TB because I don’t know if I need just 1 or both. Ibuypower says windows will be installed on M.2 drive so if I get a 2TB one do I not need a 2 TB on their primary drive option further down?

6. I see a lot of guys talking about things like overclocking and all these in depth graphics card settings and whatnot. With a computer along these lines will I still have to go in and make a bunch of adjustments (not talking about settings inside DCS) or can I expect almost DCS max settings performance right out of the box?

As always I appreciate you guys help!

Welcome Airborne! :)

1) Back in the days, I had a Titan. I don't think it was worth it. The extra VRAM is always appreciated, but I don't know that it's worth it. Now, if price is not your primary concern, there's zero harm in getting the Titan series.

2) DCS currently does not support dual GPUs. *When* vulkan (new rendering technology) gets implemented, ED is working on it, it *may* support dual GPUs. But it's conjecture at this point.

3) Motherboards can be tricky. Some have better parts like voltage regulators, some are just more USB ports. I've not used ibuying power but if you go to the manufacturer's website, there is usually a COMPARE option to see what the differences are.

4) I typically go for the 1,000W Platinum. It's really worth it IMHO.

5) M.2 is faster in spec. In reality, there is ZERO difference when you're talking about DCS. I tested launching DCS with SSD (SATA) and M.2. There was no appreciable difference. If you do video rendering, or run VMs, then faster is always better. I don't know if it makes a difference. Some like to keep the Windows OS on one physical drive and DCS in another drive.

6) Out of the box, you'll get great performance (depending on HW choice, of course). But since you're talking about Titan cards, I'm assuming your choices are top of the line. The overclocking will help with DCS. But it is not a make or break deal. And you can always get help from the forum after you get you rig up and running.

Enjoy your new rig!

The motherboard you have listed is from Asus' lower tier, I'd NOT buy that one for the rest of the rig.

+1 to Platinum orTitanium PSU, 850-1200w, depending on if you plan on a 2nd GPU some time later.

The rig reads real good, but not the mobo and not the PSU.
