Ok, bare with me here.

In the Pre-Planned mode you have to enter the coordinates manually, right?

In the Target Of Opportunity mode, you use a pre-defined Waypoint.

Does the naming seem backwards to anyone else? Being PP, you'd think you'd use an already existing point. And with TOO you'd think it'd be something you'd need to add.

Just today's Deep Thoughts... :D

For PP, you need to have the exact coordinates from intel, another asset or the DTC. So it requires planning before the mission.

For TOO, you're targeting a target designated by the aircraft's systems. The fact that we set a Waypoint as the target doesn't mean that this is the only way to to set up a target. Once we get the TGP, we'll be able to set up a target point with it, later with the radar and JHMCS.

tl;dr PP requires coordinates supplied by a third party, not the aircraft. TOO uses a target point generated by the aircraft's sensors.

PP mode is used with data cartridge which is not implemented yet. So, eventually you can input your target points at mission planer (Pre-planned targets).

TOO, can be used for example in CAS missions or with waypoint offset which is not implemented yet. So, you don't really know the target location until later in the flight (opportunity you take).
