Hi all,

I have a question:

is in plan fully functional IFF Transponder Control Panel?

What all elements are now functional on this component?

IFF itself is not really supported by DCS.

DCS itself only seperates between coalitions.

So I guess that there are no more functions planned, then simple turn it on and off.

While that is true for the time being, Wags hinted at "IFF being talked about in more detail" in the Viper cockpit orientation video, when explaining the IFF panel. I firmly take that at as confirmation about more IFF detailing coming up, but dont quote me on that. :D

I would place a bet on "how to interrogate contacts to get a hostile or friendly designation" in the Viper, as this seems not as easy as maybe expected.

If he really ment that we'll probably get a "real working" IFF system, I would love that. But I don't believe it.

I don't believe it either, but here's to hoping! :D

ED should do an improvised but functional system with the IFF.

I would like to have something functional and not 100% realistic rather than not have a system at all.

This also would be more ralistic than hiting a button to IFF because of blue or red coalition.

Hi all,

I don't know about the F-14, but HB actually developed some functionality for the Viggens IFF Transponder Control Panel, but with no effect as DCS doesn't support IFF Transponder functionality yet:

When we developed the Viggen we actually developed a simple transponder based IFF challenge/reply system. The issue is that it's.. well, useless in the context of DCS because the only aircraft equipped with this level of detail would be the Viggen.

I believe we deactivated the code and the IFF panel buttons work but do not do anything.

AFAIK that panel in the Viper is for configuring the Viper's own transponder and has little to do with interrogating others.

Besides that Wags has indeed once commented in the youtube comments of one of his Hornets videos a while ago, that ED does indeed work on some extended IFF functionality. I'm not entirely sure if he just meant the interrogation process in the Hornet or core IFF functionality for DCS. I can't remember the exact wording anymore and finding a specific comment on youtube again is pretty much impossible, but IIRC he was talking about core functionalities of DCS there.

But even being able to turn IFF on and off would be a great step forward, because as of now, you can turn your IFF transponder off or don't even have a (compatible) IFF transpondern installed in the aircraft at all (think WW2 aircraft against modern jets) and yet it still works magically.

You're not alone there buddy: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=161240 :)

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
