Mount Urta

Playing through the F-86 campaign, and one thing has been bothering me a bit. The briefings repeatedly refer to "Hill 39." When it's first mentioned, the briefing says something like "It's called Hill 39, because that's the only name we had for it" or something like that.

 

Now, I had a mission to fly and everything, but I just couldn't let go of that sentence. The whole time I'm flying and fighting my way through the campaign, in the back of my head, I'm thinking … surely that hill has a name. There are tens of thousands of people living in Zugdidi, who see that hill every single day. Surely they know its name??

 

Well these thoughts bothered me enough that I actually tried to figure out the name of that hill. It's not on Google Maps or anything, but I did eventually find it: Mount Urta. (Or Mt'a Urta. Or მთა ურთა.)

 

So while countless people are fighting and dying around Hill 39 aka Mount Urta, at least I can feel comfortably knowing I gave the hill and the denizens of Zugdidi the respect of learning about their geography.

well I'll be .... Nice work there Stretch! My unsatisfactory research methods led me to Vietnam war era hill naming :P
