Hi all!

I've been searching the web for information, but couldn't find anything specific enough. Does anyone know how many ships would be in a carrier task group, at what distance from each other, and what formation would they take?

Thanks a lot in advance!

It varies widely. I’ve seen images of current US ops in the Gulf with a carrier and only one escort (Arliegh Burke Or Tico)

In DCS, I like to put one OHP on point and two Tico’s on the flanks, all riding on about the max Weapons Range ring of the carrier. One more OHP trails the carrier by about 3/4 of a mile and offset slightly to port as “Plane Guard” .. Five ships in total.

Typically formations are centered about a known threat axis with destroyers acting as pickets at intervals of several hundred NMs, however the cruiser usually stays very close to the carrier at all times, along with a single destroyer behind the CV to catch anyone that goes in the drink.

But like everything else it depends..
