Capn kamikaze Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 I have been building a mission for multiplayer that has some CH-53's transporting some platoons of marines to invade an island on the PG map, they collect them and then disembark them, and I placed a waypoint on the island for them to move to once disembarked but if I do that it causes a crash, since it's as if they are going to walk across the water, if you just go from their spawn waypoint to their destination waypoint. If I remove the waypoint on the island the issue goes away, but they just stand around doing nothing once they disembark. Now, am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?
Grimes Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Attach the mission with the crash please. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Capn kamikaze Posted September 14, 2019 Author Posted September 14, 2019 Persian firestorm beta3.miz Mission crashes immediately after the action starts, but if you remove WP1 from each marine unit it is fine.
ex81 Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Ok, this part of the mission can`t work because the Marines are missing one WP. Try this: Marines WP 0 is where they embark to transport. (OK) Now you need a waypoint where they will disembark from the helicopter. Put waypoint 1 of the Marines close to the triangel you see when you click on the WP of the transporting Helicopter. This is where the Marines will appear again. Now you must create a new Waypoint for the Marines. This would be their WP 2. After embarking the should go direct to this waypoint. Marines disembark at their WP 1. Don`t give them Alarmstate RED, cause they will not move to WP2. Hope this helps and excuse my not so perfect english. What goes up, must come down ! Capn kamikaze Posted September 14, 2019 Author Posted September 14, 2019 That's not the issue, the issue is there is ocean between the starting point and their drop off point. If I place their next WP near their spawn point so the line doesn't cross water the mission is ok, if I drag that WP over the ocean to the island they're assaulting, then the mission locks up. So what I am doing does work, it's clearly DCS not liking the path between the waypoints crossing deep water, even though both WPs are on land.
ex81 Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Uh, that seems strange to me. Have never had this problem myself. I will test similar situation and report back again, Sorry for NO help. Capn kamikaze Posted September 14, 2019 Author Posted September 14, 2019 Well the mission is right there, feel free to use that as a starting off point since the units are there already.
Capn kamikaze Posted September 14, 2019 Author Posted September 14, 2019 There is a work around I can do, I can create a second copy of the marines on that island with starting points at the CH53's landing spots, with a late activation that is controlled by a flag set by the CH-53's landing. But it's not ideal as that means adding extra units.
Capn kamikaze Posted September 14, 2019 Author Posted September 14, 2019 On tacview if I remove that waypoint it shows the troops as moving very fast straight across the water following the CH-53's. So something really whacky is going on here.
SUNTSAG Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 There has been an embarking bug for quite a while now and I highlighted it here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=239138 with minimal response. There may well be more at play here as your mission is quite sizeable but I did manage to stop the crash when I had only one helo active and swapped out for a CH47. I also reduced the troop load to 16 total. However the troops will not embark linked to my bug report. Callsign: NAKED My YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ex81 Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 So it finally looks as if troop transport across water is impossible. But the funny thing is, if you give the troops ONLY a waypoint to embark, but the helicopter a waypoint on an other island to disembark the troops, they will show up !!! Running around in circles for a while (like being disorientated) then they stop. The sad thing is, there seems to be no way to give them new waypoints from here. As you said, the only work around is to clone the group and activating it by a trigger. I can not understand why ED has not already fixed this problem. Let`s hope. P.S, Try the small mission to see yourself.Island hoping.miz What goes up, must come down ! SUNTSAG Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 No it is actually possible with both AI and client helos but the criteria in the mission attached must be followed. 1. Ramp Start "UNCONTROLLED" 2. Push Task "START" Ground starts cannot currently use the embark/disembark process, or so it would appear.EMBARKPG.miz Callsign: NAKED My YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ex81 Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 @SUNTSAG Well. I`m a bit confused now. Is it possible to transport troops across deep water from one island to another ? Then I must be wrong with what I discovered. Could you please make things clear ? What goes up, must come down !
