SAABoy Posted September 23, 2019 Posted September 23, 2019 (edited) Hi :) I started playing DCS a few months ago. In addition to the 2 freebie modules I bought FC3 during the last sale and I'm looking forward to more DCS in the coming years. Maybe the F14B if I can get a buddy into DCS too :) Half of my PC is leftover from 10 years ago; i7 920 cpu, $200 EVGA mobo from that era, 12?gb ram from that era. I was considering $300-600 budget (~$100-200/component) for an upgrade. I recently discovered Windows 10's game screen capturing feature and had a ton of fun recording and editing my first DCS video using the Windows XBOX-labeled recording feature and DaVinci Resolve freebie video editing. I brought this up since my research so far shows 2700 vs. 3600 depending on pure gaming vs. multi-tasking for recording/streaming at the same time but not sure how much weight to put on each priority. My goal is to max out DCS on my main montior Dell 27" 1440p 144/155hz and record as well but probably not live stream. Maybe VR in the future too but seems expensive (new steam headset is $1000 :0 ). Current gear: X52 Pro HOTAS Track IR5 GPU: Vega 56 Liquid Cooled PSU: Months old EVGA 850W GQ Tower: CM690 with lots of large fans 256gb SSD for OS and program files 1tb HDD for docs Monitors: 1x Dell 27" 1440, 144/155hz main 2x Dell 24" 1920x1200, 60hz side monitors: I turn these off during any intense gaming but have 1 or 2 on in addition to main during light gaming or work. CPU idea is: 2700 or 3600  MOBO idea is: GIGABYTE X570 AORUS ELITE AMD Ryzen 3000 PCIe 4.0 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.2 AMD X570 ATX Motherboard RAM idea is: G.SKILL Trident Z Neo (For AMD Ryzen) Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin RGB DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C16D-16GTZNC Edited September 23, 2019 by SAABoy

Not doable with the Vega 56. Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.
David OC Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 (edited) At the moment with DCS more Ghz bound for now. Go for AMD or Intel above 4+ Ghz 6 core cpu. I would not go under an RTX 2070 super @ 1440P or VR for DCS with high settings MSAA x 2, It eats FPS at 4x. That's for 1440p monitor. You will need to drop a few setting for VR to hold 45 fps. I still run a 1080ti and 4 core cpu, not upgrading yet. As the gain is only 25 to 30% with a 2080ti, at double the cost!! of the 1080ti I bought. vega 56 vs 2070 super You could try the vega 56 @ 1440p I had a 1070 for awhile and was running 1440p, not max setting(Mid to high). I had to play around a bit with settings, same with VR. Sick of messing around and not flying, hence the 1080ti lol. Another SSD..? I'm sitting around 167 GB. That's all of the maps tho. DCS has it's own ssd drive and has to be on an ssd or real slow...loading. To balance / smooth my system and track ir out. I have it lock at 60 fps, which it can hold with max setting (MSAA x 2) while recording on the largest DCS sever. SAABoy Posted September 24, 2019 Author Posted September 24, 2019 Not doable with the Vega 56. Then it looks like I'm settling for the best I can do with a Vega 56.

I'm trying to decide on a MOBO, CPU, and RAM for my existing build.
BitMaster Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 3600 is a valid candidate. It will Turbo to where you need it w/o overclocking. Sure, a 3700X or even 3900X will be 5-10 fps ( at max ) better, but you can go with a B450 board and use that saved money for a 3700X, if that is an option for you. The main limiter will be the Vega56 tbh, all of those CPUs will have the same fps with that card, I am 99% sure Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X

BitMaster Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 I'd grab a Gigabyte or Asus board from the mid-tier, 150-2xx€, a 32GB 3200 or faster RAM from QVL and a 3600. A B450 board + Ryzen 3600 is maybe the best bang for the buck right now. I would certainly go 32GB to avoid any problems down the road with upgrading 16 to 32GB, which can be complicated or near impossible unless you stick with 2133/2666 MHz. I know, it's a trade one for the other if the budget is tight :( Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
boozer1 Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 I just built a system with a B450 board + Ryzen 3600, 32 gb of DDR-4 3200 and a 2070 super. DCS runs with no problems on single and multiplayer. SAABoy Posted September 27, 2019 Author Posted September 27, 2019 Thanks all. I'm current leaning towards 3600 vs 2700, 450mobo over 570 mobo, and 32gb ram over 16gb ram. For 32gb ram should I go 4x8 or 2x16?
BitMaster Posted September 27, 2019 Posted September 27, 2019 2x16GB is more likely to work at advertised speeds. I would prefer that one and definitely 32GB Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
Geraki Posted September 27, 2019 Posted September 27, 2019 I am interested to buy this ATI Sapphire Radeon RX 580 8GB Nitro+ for 150 euro ... it was in the exhibition never used ..... DCS F-16 module what do you think? I have now ATI Sapphire Flex 7870 2 GB and maybe I will use them for DCS with crossfire !!! or better to go for Nvidia ? your opinion? CPU QX9770 3.8Ghz 16 GB RAM ASUS p5e3 deluxe The card is a good choice for your slow cpu. Forget about Crossfire; DCS doesn't support it well (if at all) and mixing that old 7870 with only 2GB vram with the 580 will only slow you down as well. Make sure to your power supply provides the 2x8pin cables you need for the 580 and enough space in the case. That GPU is large! Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.
