No Mvsgas is right Pilotasso - its extra fuel.

Yes but there is no room in the MiG-29 airframe for larger fuel tanks - hence the need for the "hump back", which BTW is far more pronounced on the SMT than on the 9-13.

The exception is the MiG-29M/MiG-29K for which the changed FOD protection system(no auxillary overwing intakes) made room for extra fuel in the LERX'es - i.e. no need for that ugly hump :) .

Oh c'mon, it's not THAT ugly! :music_whistling:

Why are cockpit labels in English?

It's not an Indian export because it has Russian insignia.

US tanker aircraft crashes during takeoff

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-13452001

A US military tanker aircraft crashed and burst into flames as it took off from Point Mugu Naval Air Station in southern California.

A spokeswoman from the base said three people had been injured in the crash, about 40 miles (64 kilometres) north-west of Los Angeles.

Here's a still from the video located at the above URL:

Additional coverage from the LA Times says it's a civilian 707 (-300?) operated by Omega Aerial Refueling Services, which I guess explains the emblem on the tail!

The Boeing 707 aircraft was nearly filled to capacity with 150,000 pounds of fuel that stoked intense flames and thick clouds of dark smoke that billowed for miles as firefighters tried to control the blaze, officials said.
The three crew members (pilot, co-pilot and navigator) were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

ABC7 has additional video and photos, including this one which shows the plane veered off the runway.
