Actualy all of the scuds were intercepted and destroyed...

Actually the Patriot`s performance in the First Gulf War is very questionable. There is info suggesting none of the SCUDs was successfully intercepted... :D But this should be discussed in a separate thread.

IIRC, the officials said that the patriots were able to "intercept" X number of Scuds, but none of them were destroyed.

In other words, the patriots did fire at a lot of Scuds, but didnt hit shit....

they were intercepted and destroyed alright, but the explosive load still fell on the cities. If those were to be chemical warheads...

Source?

Point remains though, ABL could potentially do the job better ;) Either way, defense against ballistic missiles is a very tough business.

This is an accident we keep seeing over and over. F-18 hits the runway during airshow. Old video, I never seen it before,

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..

Nasty, I never seen it before neither and the pilot was lucky that no major fire or explosion occurred after the impact. I believe plane was low on fuel (as demo birds usually are) and some good firewall prevented fire from catching wings and fuselage. Too bad "Kamikaze" hurt his spine, perhaps he would eject if he was OK but again ejecting during skidding might cause more serious injuries or even death.

It's amazing to see how flexible is the Hornet's fuselage, check the nose wobbling after the impact :worthy:

Yep I saw similar ideas on other forums, good to have it here.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

"Russia and India agreement over Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier"

Russia and India will in October sign a new agreement over a Soviet aircraft carrier which Moscow is refurbishing for New Delhi in a deal plagued by problems for years, a top Russian official said on September 3rd.

"We hope to solve all the issues by the middle of October by signing an additional agreement," said the head of state holding giant Russian Technologies, Sergei Chemezov. Further details on the nature of the agreement were not immediately available.

Russia, India's longtime weapons supplier, in 2004 announced it would give India the Admiral Gorshkov carrier so long as New Delhi paid for the refurbishment. However since then the costs charged by Moscow for the refurbishment have sky-rocketed and delivery dates have been repeatedly delayed, turning the issue into an embarrassment for the allies. Indian President Pratibha Patil earlier held talks with her Russian counterpart, Dmitry Medvedev, on expanding trade and nuclear cooperation.
