Bersagliere81 Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 Hi guys, it's been almost 2 years I am away from home and my pc, now I am coming back and it is time for some upgrades. I am having a GTX970 which used to work fine on 1440p high setting, but I really feel like it needs to be upgraded. I saw RTX 2060 is fairly cheap, but is it worth the improvement (on 1440p settings)? And most of all, will it fit on a MSI SLI PLUS X99 mobo? | A-10C | MiG-21bis | Hawk T1.A | L-39 Albatros | F-5E | Ka-50 | Mi-8 | NTTR | CA | SU27 | M2000C | F-86F | AV-8B | F/A-18C | Mig 15 | Mig 19| Specs Intel i7-9700k msi GTX 2060 Gaming Z msi Z390 Gaming PLUS 16gb RAM Hotas Warthog

BitMaster Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 It will fit the X99 board for sure, no worries. +1 for 2070 and 8GB VRAM Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
Yeti42 Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 Looks like an upgrade to RTX 2060 would help, (RTX 2060 super even better) https://www.gpucheck.com/compare/nvidia-geforce-gtx-970-vs-nvidia-geforce-rtx-2060/intel-core-i7-4770k-3-50ghz-vs-intel-core-i7-8700k-3-70ghz/ Windows 10 64 bit | Intel i5-9600k OC 5 Ghz | RTX 2080 |VENGEANCE® LPX 32GB DDR 4 OC 3200 Hotas Warthog | Logitech G Flight Rudder Pedals | Track IR 4
David OC Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 (edited) 2070 with 1440P It should be a decent match, maybe need to squeeze the 5820K a little bit..... Any bigger GPU and you might be getting CPU bound. "8% bottleneck in many games" Apparently.....? That's pretty much on the money if so. Like I said a little bump and your good. BitMaster Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 As a tip, X99 chipsets and their 5th gen CPUs feature Intel's Turbo Boost in such a way that it often caused problems. If you encounter any of those, 1st thing I'd do is deinstall Intel Turbo Boost App...and/or use ProcessLasso in that case to force DCS onto selected cores. There are quite a few threads in here over the past years with X99 users that had to solve that issue with the methods I mentioned. As always, YMMV btw, I run the exact same CPU in a Server with SRV2016, it's a great CPU, just maybe not for gaming one's 1st choice tbh Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
