idrisguitar Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 I am new, have just got the base game. And have the Warthog and Huey on my list. (Also the Mustang but that.s lower priority... Super excited for a sale :)) However I also want to do carrier landings as I have always loved that in il-2 1946. Surprisingly searching the net for this info really just confused me more. What do I need to buy to get access to missions or the assets to launch and land in a carrier? Hope you guys can help. Also Hey, I'm new and super excited to get stuck in, Currently enjoying learning the Frogfoot.
Kang Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 All you need is the module for the carrier-capable aircraft you want to use. Helicopters like the Huey obviously work, but I reckon that's not what you are after. AV-8B, F/A-18C, F-14 and Su-33 all operate from ships. A more detailed carrier is coming up as a separate module, but carrier operations work with either of these 'out of the box'.
Snacko Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 If you want something with a hook, I would recommend the FA-18c which is a full clickable cockpit, or Su33, which is not a clickable cockpit and easier to learn. Blech Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 Hi, The base game includes an carrier (Mission-Editor) As mentioned above, you need a suitable heli/plane
idrisguitar Posted October 12, 2019 Author Posted October 12, 2019 Thanks, I think Ill bump up the Hornet on my list then! The Hornet trailer is epic!
CBStu Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 Get the Hornet. We all have different personal finances but what I will say is this, if you have to take 3 months to pay it off on your credit card, just buy it. You will be so happy with it that first payment will be no problem. BUT, one thing you need is a really good throttle. To me that is the most important thing in carrier traps. I had gotten a VKB Gladiator stick previously and can recommend it wholeheartedly. It has twist for the rudder so no pedals needed. Buying that stick for $99 will help make the TM throttle more palatable. But the throttle on the VKB is fine for everything but carrier traps. I finally made the $250 commitment for a Warthog throttle and it makes all the difference.

I have now got the A10c and the hornet on the top of my list and will probably just go ahead and buy them and support the dev. I have a t16000m and a TWCS and ch rudder pedals. so a good collection all for less than £180 all in. Happy with that at the moment, but will eventually upgrade to warthog hotas and windforce rudder at some point in the next few years if i keep up with my simming. (currently loving elite dangerous too... next stop VR) Appreciate all the advice. Cant wait to truly dive in.
