SpitFlyer Posted October 19, 2019 Posted October 19, 2019 Hello Reflected I'm enjoying getting into The Big show :) I got it last March and I've been through the first three missions a couple of times. The system seems to lose track of where I am (and it doesn't help that I've had long time-gaps between sessions :music_whistling:). Anyway, the real reason for this note is that I recently bought the Clostermann book. I'm enjoying reading that too. I sat down and wrote a list of missions and tried to relate them to the chapters of the book ... but I couldn't (for some of them). My book doesn't have "Rommel"(mission 12) nor "An Unsavoury Incident" (mission 9). I did some ferreting around on Amazon and discovered several editions of the book. Mine is a Kindle edition. It has 39 chapters and shows "First published in Great Britain in 1951 by Chatto and Windus, Ltd. © Flammmarion, Paris, 2008 This edition published by Silvertail Books in 2019 Clostermann, Pierre. The Big Show: The Classic Account of WWII Aerial Combat (p. 245)." The paperback edition has 61 chapters and shows "Published in 2004" in its credits page. That's quite a big difference! Any idea why they (seem to have) chopped out all those chapters? Could they have amalgamated some of them? I have adopted the policy of reading the chapter before doing the mission (in fact I'm reading ahead, it's so enthralling!, but I'll go back and re-read just before I fly) so when I do the "Rommel" mission I'll be flying blind, so to speak:huh: Thanks again for the whole package. Hayate Posted October 19, 2019 Posted October 19, 2019 The edition published in 2004 was the definitive before Clostermann death.. Sadly few people reads and understand french... I found very very intheresting videos
Reflected Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 SpitFlyer, that's intersting, I had no idea they dropped so many chapters in the latest edition. I first read a late 40's edition in French, then I bought a 2007 edition in English: https://www.amazon.com/Big-Show-Greatest-Military-Paperbacks/dp/0304366242 They all seem to have these chapters. Anyhow, enjoy the book, it's one of my favorites, and I hope the campaign will bring those events alive for you. Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord
