I’m looking for a second hotas setup for travel. My primary hotas is a tm warthog wit tpr . I’m looking for a tm cougar but they are impossible to find used let along new. Other than that I want a stick with twist grip and a throttle no pedals. What would you recommend.

I have the gladiator but I’m wanting a throttle. That is separate I might upgrade to the modern combat pro grip down the line making the upgrade needed at that point. But the little thottle on the gladiator is usesless in vr.

Then get VKB Gladiator+SCG and Thrustmaster TWCS throttle, you don't need both from same brand.

Is the best "middle" cost HOTAS that you can buy, and with important contactless sensor in twist axis of Gladiator+SCG, with convenience that SCG grip is removable, making more easy fit in luggage (for travel).

Other than this you are limited to Saitek's X-5x Q/C "lottery" (X-56 has removable grip), T.16000MFCS (twist with conventional pot, first thing to give issues) and the (junk) HOTAS X.

"Vintage" CH is not option because don't have "twist" rudder.

Or in "high end" segment (and cost) throttle + joy from VirPil, their new V.F.X. (F-14'ish) stick has twist rudder with contacless sensor, WarBRD (Mi-8'ish) grip too.

What he said

The TWCS is also quite low profile and light. If you go with the TWCS be ready to grease it as the default grease it "bad". Mine was really sticky, greased it with Nyogel 767A. Now it is really nice. And no, the throttle friction screw doesn't solve the problem.

More info and tuto here (Really easy compared to the Warthog stick greasing) :

Get a T.1600M and TWCS...Should be more than good enough for what you're looking for and inexpensive.
