tflash Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 He guys, what is in your opinion the most underestimated fighter? (I have a very clear idea about which is the most overestimated, but will wisely keep that for myself ;) ) For me: the Mirage 2000. I find it's simple setup and very high quality FBW system and avionics make it a very strong contender. The tragedy is the French burried it while they needed a carrier-born aircraft (Rafale). Now they seem stuck with an aircraft that no one wants to buy, whereas there still are people who would prefer buying a Mirage over an Mig-29. But unfortunately, the production line is closed! What are other hidden jewels? The Jaguar? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
FWT Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Thats a good question alot of planes are underated cos they cant TVC or dont have canards.
Pilotasso Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Most underestimated fighter? Some people are tired of hype (or not) or just plain talk about the same fighters over and over again, but theres one that despite its tremendous capability has been largely ignored by the public probably only due to political and historic reasons. It operates in a country that has been forbiden to get out of its own borders with military hardware, the plane is half indigenous half made by Lockheed Martin. It is an advanced and highly modified version of a popular fighter, and the first operational "western" fighter to be fielded with an AESA radar wich at the time blew and inflated its price into the realm of superfighters. It was first intended to be a replacement of the US airforce backbone but ended as a surface strike aircraft for a distant country though it has inherited a potential for AA combat that cannot be ignored. The country is Japan and the fighter is the Japanese F-2. Only defect it has, is that so far due to restrictions of weapons sales it has never been cleared to carry the AMRAAM but only indegenous developed missiles Wich BTW are or have been developed and planned for integration. It looks like an F-16 but it is to the falcon the same way Superhornet is to the F-18C. Bigger, badder and IMHO better. .
aviadreams87 Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 I concur with the F-2. I made a thread about the F-2 in the news, nobody gave a damn about it. :)
