ED Team Chizh Posted December 21, 2019 ED Team Posted December 21, 2019 Thanks for the reply Chizh. Does DCS still not modify drag for the motor on condition? If I recall it doesn't, and this results in higher drag during initial acceleration. If this is still the case, is this planned to be changed with coming missile updates? The body base drag already accounted in the new FM, in particular for the Sparrow family missiles, already migrated to the new FM. AIM-120s will be soon in the first quarter 2020. ED Team Chizh Posted December 21, 2019 ED Team Posted December 21, 2019 (edited) I don't understand. The patch notes say only sub- and transonic zero lift drag, lift induced drag and lift was changed. You say there was nothing more than that but you also state it has "higher supersonic" drag, your wording is unclear. AIM-120C got next changes: 1. Significantly reduced subsonic and transonic zero-lift drag. 2. Slightly increased of siupersonic zero-lift drag. 3. Reduced lift-induced drag. 4. Increased lift. AIM-120B got next changes: 1. Reduced lift-induced drag. 2. Increased lift. This is all for now. The migration of 120 to the new FM is planned for the first quarter of 2020. Please add it for clarification, as I saw many people were wondering about this.

Also transonic and subsonic missile is already almost dead, how can it be much of a threat to maneuvering target? basically missile performs better when it's almost useless. Edit: Uploaded side by side tacview with old and new 120C against maneuvering target. It seems that the most helpful thing that makes new missile slightly better against maneuvering target is removal of that stupid pull up during missile start phase :D(in the old missile). If that pull up wasn't there I bet old missile would do as good/or better Edit2: Added tacview where I used fuselage launched Aim-120C on f-15, since it gives more similar launch profile.OldVsNew-Aim-120C_Maneuvering_Fus.txt.zip Edited December 21, 2019 by DackSter94 Adding tacview track LOOK MA, NO HOOK

The aim120b on the other hand still seems super short ranged... Enviado desde mi SM-G950F mediante Tapatalk Edited December 21, 2019 by falcon_120
ED Team Chizh Posted December 22, 2019 ED Team Posted December 22, 2019 Also transonic and subsonic missile is already almost dead, how can it be much of a threat to maneuvering target? At low altitudes, the missile is capable get a tangible lift and g-load of approximately up to M0.6-0.8.
