Foxis Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Hi all, Just want to check if anyone else is having problems with this combo after the last update? I am following Chuck's guide and have referred to both Wags and Redkites youtube videos, but I cannot get the LMAV to lock. Step by step: Instant Action - ready on the ramp - rearm with a pod and LMAV - takeoff - switch on FLIR and wait for cool down - Set both Mav and pod codes to 1688 - activate trigger mode on pod - arm FLIR - slew to ground target and designate (ptrk mode) -- diamond appears in HUD - uncage LMAV Now one of two things happens: 1, most often: LMAV sweeps and does not sync with the designated point 2, sometimes: LMAV will instantaneously sync and look at target In the wags video, he holds the trigger to lase the target and does so at weapons release, after having gotten the Mav to find the target. In Redkite's video, it would appear that one has to toggle the pod to tase the target (and not hold) to get the Mav to find the target. So I am a bit confused here. Regardless, even if I managed to get the Mav to "find" the target and be in range. It will still not lock (even though laser is triggered and indicated as such on the FLIR page (LRTD etc. in the upper center obs display position). MAV is crossed over and weapon will not release. So, I kindly would like to ask: 1. Am I doing something wrong, if so, what? 2. Is anyone else having problems? Many thanks in advance! :)
EAF602 Red Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Find Target, with Tpod, designate it (TDC depress) arm laser trigger and fire, make right DDI SOI, uncage, (Mav should slew to target) and while pointing at target once you see white square in Mav's reticule fire. remember to undesignate for the next target Works for me
Foxis Posted December 29, 2019 Author Posted December 29, 2019 I tried it several more times, and it appears the "problem" is with the maverick finding the laser. Some targets it will lock onto, some not. Especially buildings are hard to lock onto. Are there any tips regarding how/where to point the laser in order for it to be easily trackable by mavs/bombs?
EAF602 Red Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Once you find target remember the laser only has a certain range in DCS (8 miles or so cant remember exactly) from about 10-15000ft point A/C towards target area in a slight 5-10 angle until the mav seeker head picks up the laser from about 8 miles or so and rifle remember not to block the view of the laser as you egress out As for bombs you drop them on auto for the laser as you fly over T/A ,once released you then fire laser Hope this helps m8 Red
Foxis Posted December 31, 2019 Author Posted December 31, 2019 (edited) Range *might* be an issue, as I have been far out when designating. However, often the behaviour has persisted until on top of the target, and I have been flying level at 3-5000 feet or so so masking should not be an issue. Is there a visibility factor to the lasing in terms of surfaces being illuminated? That would explain why it sometimes locks and sometimes not. I am curious - is everyone having 100% success with the method? Am I the only one having issues? Edit to add: It is curious that someone tagged my post with "(NO BUG")". How/Why? That moderator should have had the courtesy to respond to the post before editing it and explaining why following the correct procedures fails in locking the target. Edited December 31, 2019 by Foxis
Deano87 Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 What would be helpful is if you can post a track or even preferably a video showing what you are doing and the problem you’re having. Then we can diagnose it easier. Also run a DCS repair to make sure it’s not some weird file corruption somewhere? Tholozor Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 Did you arm the LTD/R switch (laser power) next to the FLIR switch? The designating laser code isn't an option to change until after the LTD/R switch is set to ARM.
