For those who have it, what are your thoughts on the Virpil VFX Grip? I have a Warthog stick now, how does the quality compare? How is shipping/cost, I live in the U.S. How is customer support?

If the reviews are high, I am thinking of getting one once the grip with no twist axis is in stock again.

I would consider the VKB as well, but it is not compatible with my Warthog base.

I've got a full Virpil kit with T-50CM throttle, T-50CM2 stick base, VFX grip with 100 mm extension and WarBRD pedals.

The VFX grip is very cool from a roleplay perspective, trigger 2nd detent is snappy, very solid build overall, just a bit of wiggle in the buttons and it takes a bit of practice to smoothly flip the weapon selector in and out of safe. Using it on a Hog base you won't have the DLC or brake axes though I've heard they still work as buttons.

Shipping is gonna suck, both cost and getting it delivered. It'll come via FedEx and you'll need to sign for it. Virpil's customer support is great.

I have it and i use it with warbrd base acting as a warthog (for target script reasons).

It is a very good grip...it is made of plastic but of good quality.

I use it only with f14 and warbirds due to less buttons

I have it and use it with my Warthog base, DLC works fine for me as I was using a hat on the WH stick. It's obviously not robust as the WH stick as it's made of plastic, but it's great to have a 1 to 1 representation of what is in the game. Since the additional axis are treated as buttons, I use the twist function for VR zoom and scope zoom, I haven't ever had any issues of inadvertently twisting it during a gnarly dogfight. As was said above getting the selector switch from off to guns is a bit awkward to get used to. Was wondering if it was this hard on the real stick. I spend more time in the Tomcat than any other plane, so it was worth it to me.

Anyone swapping the grip for the MC-50 grip regularly? I'm wondering how easy or not easy that is?

I have it and am using it with the T-50CM2 base.

The VFX is very nice. The pickle does have a slight wiggle and the weapon selector takes some getting used to but this isn't a minus for me just a new experience.

The grip is plastic instead of metal and this also just takes some getting used to as the momentum is less than the warthog.

However, the T-50CM2 is excellent at setting up tensions and center so, once dialed in, the weight is not noticed but the grip does get warmer from use than the metal - sweaty as is not as cold as metal

Trigger detent is less than warthog but fine also.

The paddle is considerably longer than the warthog.

The locking twist is achieved by using an allen wrench and goes in much farther than you might think - keep trying to twist as you're tightening.

Shipping was a monster (74E for stick, base and hardware) and your card company will probably hit you with a $20 international charge. There was a discount for buying the stick with the base.

The base is the finest I have ever used. I switch between the warthog, F/A-18 & F-14 grips with relative ease. Just a quick axis calibration and profile load.

With this base I have the stick with progressively hard pull which makes it excellent for knowing how hard to pull the 14 without breaking anything. Light center of roll for easy minute control movements and crisp hard aileron rolls.

The combination is just amazing. If the VFX was metal I would like it more but as is I love it. I'm at the point now I won't buy an aircraft if it doesn't have a grip out there. The familiarity is over the top for me.

Virpil is not cheap and shipping isn't either but I can't imagine going back.

I went with mounting hardware for a center stick lowered to just above my chair and side mount throttle also Virpil. Figured if I'm paying 74E shipping might as well get everything I needed.

Software now has tutorials on YouTube.

PS dealing with Virpil has been professional and my 1st order took a bit due to my card holding the purchase but the second order was in Upstate NY in very fast time. Verify with your card they have disbursed the funds!

As an aside to the point about the pickle and NWS buttons being squishy, the grip is properly sized to a point actual Otto hardware will fit. The NWS was a bit tricky to desolder as I had to leave it plugged in based on how the lower controller board for the twist is very snug, but the replacement is easy, takes about half an hour, and bumps the feel of an already quality piece that much higher.

At some point manufacturers are going to realize the buttons aren't long throw and soft, but instead very direct.
