Zulu111 Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 I'm new to DCS and I just bought the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS to use with the sim. Is it necessary to install the Target software? Or can I just plug the HOTAS into the PC and use DCS to configure my desired control settings? I also see that there are firmware updates on the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS page so I assume I should install those items? Thanks.
VpR81 Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 You would need to install the Software in order to perform a firmware update, but you don't need to map keys in the software. However, you'll loose a lot of the Warthogs capabilities if you choose not to use the TARGET software, no matter if it's the script editor or the GUI. It has it's flaws, but the possibilities the software provides are great. You'll find a lot of people here in the forum that hate it, while there are also a lot that love it. I don't wanna miss it... Never install firmware updates unless your hardware really has a failing that would be fixed by the update. Always there is a risk when installing firmware: the installer may fail, the power can go out on the middle of it, the firmware may introduce more bugs than it solves. I know that many people loves to always have "the latest" ... the latest windows, latest driver, latest firmware ... it is better to go by the saying "don’t fix it if it isn’t broken". rob10 Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 One reason to update the firmware is if you have the F18 handle it won't work properly unless you update.
