Hi

I run a Core i7, 32GB RAM and have DCS on a SSD. But what really matters is that I have a GTX1660Ti graphics card with 6GB VRAM dedicated.

Until the latest update, I sometimes entered Task Manager just to check on percentages. Now, I know this isn't a high-end card by any means, but I used to be able to run DCS smoothly with an average of 60FPS or so and on Task Manager the card was pushed to 60% more or less, peaking sporadically up to 80%.

With the last update, however, it's constantly above 90%, sometimes reaching 98/99% on a normal flight in multiplayer. This didn't give me any stutters or lower FPS (maybe about 5FPS less on average), mind you, but it does seem exaggerated compared to other games (including other simulators I have).

Does this mean DCS is now demanding more juice from the GPU? Or is it an optimization issue?

I also run a Core i7, 32GB RAM and have DCS on a SSD...but I have a 1070 SC with 8gb VRAM. My card runs at 99% - 100% mostly all of the time and has done so for the past year or more of updates. Not sure what's changed that is affecting you.

Try deleting the fxo and metashaders2 folders, located in your Saved Games folder (they'll be rebuilt automatically once you run DCS again) and then run a Repair and Cleanup, for good measure. See if this helps.

If you do not limit fps and only have ~60ish GPU usage then your CPU is the BIG bottleneck.

All GPU's should run near 100%, that would be normal, as long as your CPU can fill the card.

Which i7 do you have ? i7's do greatly differ in performance, depending which models you compare.

FXO metashader2 should be deleted after every update, just to be safe.

Hi all

I do delete both the FXO and Metashaders folders, yes. Every time either DCS or Nvidia updates something.

As for my Core i7, it's a 4960X 3.6 (OC at 4.0 and stable). In Task Manager it's usually idle or at max 30% (measured) when running DCS.

So running at near 100% GPU is ok? I shouldn't be worried?

There's nothing wrong with running your GPU at 100%, as long as its temperature doesn't go above 80 C.

You can also try deleting the fxo and metashaders folders in \DCS World\Bazar\shaders\, in the game directory and then running a repair and cleanup.

100% GPU is what you paid for !

If it runs at less than high 90ish you have a bottleneck which won't allow you feed the GPU properly.

The GPU is designed to run at full load.

The only thing you have to provide is enough airflow inside the case so the whole damn thing won't overheat. Neither the GPU nor any other component by the waste heat the GPU dumps into your case.
