Laud Posted January 19, 2020 Posted January 19, 2020 (edited) When I was visiting the suisse AFB Meiringen they were practising for their Axalp-Shooting. When they took off I noticed quite a large amount of smoke come out of some vents on the fuselages upper side (between the vertical stabs). Happens when they power up the engines from IDLE to Full. Linked you a video for reference. Could we maybe have this little eye-candy please? :music_whistling: Edited January 19, 2020 by Laud [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Asus ROG STRIX Z390-F Gaming, Intel Core i7 9700k , 32gb Corsair DDR4-3200 Asus RTX 2070 super, Samsung 970 EVO Plus M2, Win10 64bit, Acer XZ321QU (WQHD) TM HOTAS Warthog, SAITEK Rudder Pedals, TIR 5

takamba Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Answer from here: https://aviation.stackexchange.com/questions/37947/what-is-this-smoke-coming-from-an-f-a-18-shortly-before-takeoff "It is not smoke. It is bleed air being blown behind the heat exchanger which forces cool air across the front of the heat exchanger, this is only happens on the ground. The left side of the aircraft has a secondary heat exchanger that is also cooled by a water spray nozzle. The water is created by the ECS taking bleed air and cooling it. The water is blown out by the bleed air so you can see it more on one side than the other. In the picture, it seems to be raining so the air being blown out is more visible because of the rainwater."
