Hello,

I've searched for the answer, but I still can't understand what is the difference between putting the Radar on SILent mode, or placing it on STand-BY ?

I've tested them and, it seems to me, that the only difference is that SIL keeps the azimuth & bar scanning working, while Stand-by stops them. Is there any other difference?

Thanks

Great question.

The JF-17 is not better than the F-16; it's different. It's how you fly that counts.

STBY keeps the radar turned on but reduces emissions to the point at which you don't sterilize your ground crew and get sued into oblivion.

SIL completely cuts all radar emissions but continues scanning the dish, use this when you don't want to be detected on RWR.

Either option will stop providing a radar picture.

OK, that makes sense .. however, I find it strange that neither the Startup Checklist, nor the After Landing one, state that the Radar should be placed on STBY when on the Ground.

If I cold start the JF-17, and power the radar myself, it starts with both STBY and SIL not activated, so the JF-17 does not appear to have a Weight-on-Wheels lock to prevent use of the radar on the ground.

But, if I Start Hot on Ramp, then both STBY and SIL are activated (boxed) .. so, I'm somewhat puzzled with this :(

Hopefully, one of DEKA's people can provide his input on this, as I'm using all this radar info for editing a training mission about the Radar, and I'd like for it to be as accurate as possible.

Best regards,

Eduardo
