arneh Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Mind you, US isn't deploying SLAMRAAM until 2009, AFAIK. Norway has been using NASAMS since 1998, and it's pretty much the same thing as SLAMRAAM. I also believe Spain is using NASAMS, and Netherland has at least ordered it.
bradmick Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 I seem to remember the U.S. military announcing having to change helicopter tactics in Afghanistan and Iraq due to heavy losses... If you ever watch the videos on you-tube they kind of back that up. We don't fly low anymore. Brad
GGTharos Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Was it due to 'heavy losses' or due to the potential of this happening? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
GGTharos Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Why would it work better? The mission isn't exactly a difficult one, and the improvements on the 120D are likely not needed (though more range is always desireable) at all against the low, slow targets its meant to engage. SLAMRAAM is probably not able to make use of the 2-way datalink of the D either. The D's will go to equip the USAF /first/, then SLAMRAAM. It's more important to have them on planes ;) Why would it not use the AIM-120D though? I mean, sure the current ones work fine, but the D will work better, provided there's good detection range. Speaking of AAMs gone SAM, I would love to see a Phoenix-based SAM... with thrust-vectoring. bradmick Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Well, the only real problem we have was from small arms fire, so to prevent the chances of small arms causing us problems, we opted to fly above them. Which, is no big deal. With my aircraft I can be rediculously accurate at altitude. If you've ever seen the luckiest dog in the world video (what we call it) they aren't anywhere near those guys with their mortar, or else they would have been running long before getting ripped apart by sick amounts of 30 mike mike. Brad
Mugatu Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 lol was looking for the vid you mentioned, this not it hahaha http://www.truveo.com/Luckiest-Dog-in-the-World/id/198802455 Well, the only real problem we have was from small arms fire, so to prevent the chances of small arms causing us problems, we opted to fly above them. bradmick Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Hah, yeah, the second video is definately the one I was refering to. Not ol' bipod dog there. That's funny. Brad

Eagle Driver Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 It's never pretty, but it might make it easier to think that they would've done the same to you many times over, and enjoyed doing so for their convoluted perception of Islam. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] If you fly a perfect Defensive BFM and the bandit does a perfect Offensive... Someone you know is going to be recieving Insurance money very soon.

bradmick Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 And as much as we all hate death, we still play video games and scream out in triumph as our mighty missiles slam into a tank holding anywhere from three to five occupants and roll around gleefully strafing troop columns. Heh, guess that's another conversation though. ;) Anyway, it really will be interesting to see how the Ka-50 flies, especially to me as everything I know is all digital. I love analog gauges though. It's the main reason why I love IL2 Sturmovik so much, or First Eagles. WWI pilots were true aviators, flying with the absolute bare minimums. Mmm...Nostalgia. Brad
