MP - dedicated server on 2.5.6 - 2:30 minutes to get a slot

Hello,

I've made a few tests and, on our open server always running the same mission, there is a huuuuuuge difference between a 2.5.5 server and a 2.5.6 server.

When connected to the server, if I clic in the slots list to get in a plane, on 2.5.5 it takes about 2 seconds, and on 2.5.6 a whopping 2:30 minutes !

This is on the first client taking the first slot, and it happens systematically everytime the server or the mission is restarted.

Taking a second slot is done quicker : 14 seconds (vs 0 in 2.5.5).

There is something weird in 2.5.6 Multiplayer.

Do you need something to understand what happens ? There is nothing interesting in the log files.

So 2 things I can think of..

1. Watch the server itself (remote desktop look at it's screen whatever you want to do to look at the actual server BOX) and bring up task manager, when the first client clicks on the slot check and see if DCSWorld.exe goes 'non responsive' for a period of time. The logs will NOT show a NR even, they just get slow as a NR event is caused by the application not being able to report to windows that it's active and working due to being bogged down and having problems reporting.

2. Try another mission a simple mission etc and see if you get the same result.. because it could be something specific to that mission and when some one first joins etc triggering a bunch of scripting or the such to happen..

I've made some tests and I found out that, when the first user connects to a fresh 2.5.6 server, this is output in the client log (even before choosing a slot) ; and if the user chooses a slot right away, he has to wait for these message to finish their business before getting his slot.

It's not just 2.5.6 because our severs that even have slotblocking, dont suffer from this pause as described. However I have noticed when the server is under load I have seen a new effect that does cause a delay (not that long, but nearly) and it was different, server to server and time to time.

Something has changed, but it doesnt always cause that effect.
