SkipCarey Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Overall would you recommend Buying the 8KX ?and what are youre opinions about your overall experience with their products? Im wanting to go Pimax for the FOV, but Im leary of their claims regarding their products in particular the screenshots regarding reading the instruments/gauges in DCS and IL2,any and all opinions from current owners would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thanx in advance.

Phantom88 Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Correct,The 8kx is still in development stage,I did pre-ordered in Oct/19 for a estimated release date of 4/20 but with Current World Affairs as they are I'm really not optimistic about actually seeing them in use till late summer. I'm currently using a Pimax 5k+ which I enjoy very much,The resolution is very good and The FOV really made a huge difference for me. I have had no trouble with the headset since I got it 18 months ago. My last HMD was a Rift CV! so this was a incredible step up. Patrick

I have an Index, Im mostly wanting a bigger FOV is the 5k+ as good as the Index in resolution/visual sharpness?
Phantom88 Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 (edited) I have an Index, Im mostly wanting a bigger FOV is the 5k+ as good as the Index in resolution/visual sharpness? Sorry,I don't have or never tried The Index,I can say The "Screen Door" Effect was hardly noticeable and resolution much improved over The Rift CV1 This video might be worth watching Edited February 27, 2020 by Phantom88 added video Patrick
Harlikwin Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 Its not out yet as others have pointed out. However the really early reviews of it with DCS have been a bit questionable in terms of performance. Clarity wise it seems to be on par with the Reverb, FOV is obviously bigger, sweet spot looks bigger and colors are better than the reverb. However the review with DCS vid was in a lo-fi FC3 plane, and it looked like alot of the graphics were turned off, and someone mentioned that they were using the ketgys VR shader mod (for improved performance). And even then the frames were low. I'm personally in the wait and see camp on this. I want a better a FOV and clarity compared to the reverb, but given that the reverb has a hard time keeping up, I just don't really see how they manage as good PPD with nearly 2x the FOV without a massive frame rate hit. The other end of it is that Pimax and DCS have historically not always played well together, and as a company Pimax went through alot of early growing pains, maybe thats all in the past now, but its something else to consider. New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1) Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).
