Hello All

I have the Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS joy, throttle,, pedals. There is a wheel on the throttle for radar elevation and tpod zoom. It sort of works except there seems to be no middle ground in the zoom. It is either max or min. For example in tpod it zooms from 0 - 9 with no way to stop in between. same with radar just max or min. Any ideas?

Thanks

Do a search and there are several threads on the radar elevation part. Same idea likely applies to the tpod zoom. Short version is that in the real Hornet the elevation is controlled by a momentary switch (i.e. you push forward/back and the radar moves until you release it then the radar stops in that position and the switch moves back to the middle) vs a wheel (where the position of the radar is controlled by the relative position of the wheel).

Hey Silverdevil!

As rob stated, the Hornet has a momentary switch to control radar elevation and Tpod zoom.

In the TWCS I think the best thing you can do is to bound that control to the paddles in front of the throttle, or to the two way button near the analog stick. I'm using the first way and it works fairly well (but keep in mind that, when using the Tpod, you have to stop the zooming in or zoomin out using the opposite command - i.e. when you zoom out and want to stop, tap the zoom in button -)

thanks rob10 and gianky. i will give it a shot. i believe the wheel does essentially what gianky noted

I'd like to add that, in my opinion, it's not a hardware issue, since I have the wheel bound to the TGP zoom controls in the F-16, and it works in steps, without zooming all the way in or all the way out. Not sure if it's a Hornet bug, or if it's like that in real life (even if the pod is the same, controls in the cockpit could be different).

It's correct to how it is IRL. The F-16 has a wheel and its offset from the center is the current axis value. The axis zero is when the offset is zero. The F-18 has a spring-loaded rocker switch, essentially. There isn't real axis logic, only up (as long as the rocker is up), down (as long as the rocker is down) and no input (as long as the rocker stays neutral).

i mapped in / out buttons and now it appears correct on F18. it seems that i have to turn the wheel max one way or the other. then while it is zooming you have to turn the opposite direction to stop. it is definitely not fine tuned. buttons of course are perfect. i will try the F16 to see what it does. thanks for the feedback / help.
