Lange_666 Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 (edited) For those who had (or have) both. How do they compare in: - Feeling: - Centering: - Moving out of center: Cougar U2 with original stick, Virpil with standard Warthog stick. Why: I had a Cougar with Uber2 mod and was really happy about it. Great gimbals. I now have the Warthog but the although a big improvement over the stock Cougar gimbals, the Warthog gimbals are still way below par if i compare these to the Uber2. I modified the Warthog already a bit, Sahaj's Green Spring instead of original spring, sanded the gimbals and added beter grease and although already a lot better then stock, still can't match the Uber2 feeling. These still a bit of friction, certainly around the center point and the centering still is a bit rough. So i'm looking for something else. I have a few things in mind which i can try quickly but i guess the plastic gimbals of the Warthog need something better. toutenglisse Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 It may not help, but relative to warthog base, ime improvement to centering doesn't come from modifying the big upper spring, but the 4 little springs below the clutch. I replaced mines by 4 springs with much bigger wire, defined the height by testing (too high = loose in the center, clutch has to be able to seat down fully). Now my base has a very soft center (I put the stick out of center with little finger in all directions) but as I kept the big upper spring, stick returns firmly to center whatever the position. Just an idea if you can DIY it costs zero and improves the base.
Lange_666 Posted March 12, 2020 Author Posted March 12, 2020 Thanks for the input. I played around with the bottom springs below the clutch but was never happy with the result. With the current setup, i can move the stick out of center with ease but it's never smooth at low speed. Friction still plays up. Higher speed is no problem. Another thing i noticed that if there isn't enough tension from the upper spring (green one in my case) the stick sometimes as an odd behaviour like if the gimbals have come loose. Weird feeling. Since i was so used to the supersmooth movement from the Uber2 Cougar mod and compared to this the Warthog gimbals are way below par, i cashed out for a Virpil base. It should arrive mid next week.
