Nealius Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 I use the TM Warthog. I have my TDC axis set to work well with the radar and TPOD, where I can easily make minute movements and corrections, however the AUTO bomb reticle in the HUD jumps around like a mosquito on the HUD glass. The slightest touch of the nipple and the HUD reticle will jump a half mile. Putting the reticle on anything smaller than a CV from 1nm out seems impossible. Is there any way to fine tune it?
Harker Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 The A/G TD box on the HUD is indeed very sensitive right now, it's not an issue on your end. It's controlled by the TDC axes, so unless you're willing to reduce the TDC speed on everything else, you can't really fine tune it. See if you can find a middle ground between a good TDC speed/curve on the other displays and a slow enough speed for the HUD TD box. Hardware wise, you can try swapping out the Warthog ministick for something like the Deltasim slew upgrade, but even like that, it's still not really usable. I've done it and although it's a huge upgrade for everything else, it only marginally helped with the HUD TD box. I can now use the TD box for coarse designation, to target something like a bridge, but it still jumps around a fair bit and often doesn't end up on target. I'm guessing this will be improved once the A/G designation and/or NAV parts of the Hornet get some love. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord. Aluminum Donkey Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Yep, it's really, *really* coarse! Same thing here. Just have to wait until they iron it out if you want to use it. CCIP is the only thing I've ever had much luck with though anyway. Level bombing is nowhere near as accurate, or at least I'm no good at it :) AD Kit: B550 Aorus Elite AX V2, Ryzen 7 5800X w/ Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE, 2 x 16GB Kingston Fury DDR4 @3600MHz C16, Asus ROG Strix RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB, EVGA SuperNova 750 G2 PSU, HP Omen 32" 2560x1440, Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS fitted with Leo Bodnar's BU0836A controller. --Aviation is the art of throwing yourself at the ground, and having all the rules and regulations get in the way! Nealius Posted March 10, 2020 Author Posted March 10, 2020 That's a shame. I was using it quite successfully for DTOS bombing with PGMs, but wanted more precision for use with dumb bombs. Setting up all those laser codes and coords is a pain in the butt.

Setting up all those laser codes and coords is a pain in the butt. Probably the only way to get decent accuracy with dumb bombs is CCIP. Dive-toss & Level bombing (CCRP) aren't very precise--hence the development of more expensive guided bombs. I can't hit the roof of an aircraft hangar with dumb bombs using CCRP :) AD Kit: B550 Aorus Elite AX V2, Ryzen 7 5800X w/ Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE, 2 x 16GB Kingston Fury DDR4 @3600MHz C16, Asus ROG Strix RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB, EVGA SuperNova 750 G2 PSU, HP Omen 32" 2560x1440, Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS fitted with Leo Bodnar's BU0836A controller. --Aviation is the art of throwing yourself at the ground, and having all the rules and regulations get in the way! Harker Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 I beg to differ regarding the accuracy of AUTO. If the target is properly designated (like by WPDSG), then I can achieve pretty good results with AUTO if I fly a careful profile. Not level flight, I aim for a release around 10,000 ft, at a 30-40 degree angle. It allows to keep the target in sight during the turn. Of course, it's situation-dependent. Nealius Posted March 11, 2020 Author Posted March 11, 2020 Reason I was doing DTOS was that it seemed to be the primary attack method back in the A-7 days, and I like old-school bombing like that. It also allows you to approach with a CCIP dive profile,, but pull out of the dive with more slant-range separation from threats than traditional CCIP does.
Godric Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 I have in issue with the TDC diamond not staying put once on target, am i missing something? is there a way to lock it down? seems like as i level out ti moves forward as if its following my velocity vector.
