muamshai Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 So I was reading quick start manual (yes I know I am 2 years late :D), I read following lines on page 67: The AWACS aircraft flies according to a planned straight or circular route and alerts allied aircraft, SAM sites, and ships when it detects enemy aircraft. Certain SAM systems can receive targeting data directly from the AWACS even when their own acquisition radar systems have been destroyed. Now I would like to know: 1. What type of SAMs can support such feature? 2. What do I need to do to transfer data between AWACS and SAMs? This space is available for your advertisement
Force_Feedback Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Soviet SAMs for sure, as they all were designed from day 1 for datalinking, the problem is that if the fire control radar can't lock the target, the missiles can't receive guidance. This is solved by using the track via missile method, but I'm not sure which radars support such feature (if they do). I have this nice fat Russian book on all the SAMs, along with sensitivitiy figures and such, but im too lazy to look it up. I don't think this is modelled in lomac though. GGTharos Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Erm ... US SAMs are all designed for datalinking too. Right down to Avenger. IN any case, no, thi sisn't really implemented in LO in any useful manner. muamshai Posted December 17, 2007 Author Posted December 17, 2007 ach, if I understood correctly... it means that those above lines was just for user information, and they are not really implemented? This space is available for your advertisement
GGTharos Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Correct. SAM AI is not capable of taking advantage of a datalink. At best, it will reduce their reaction time which is useful for passive SAMs like SA-13, Avenger etc, but other than that, nada. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
S77th-GOYA Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 I wouldn't be so sure about that. I'm not sure of SAMs but artillery will have increased range with an AWACS present.
GGTharos Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 SAMs will seem to have increased range in some cases because their reaction time gets cut down. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
muamshai Posted December 18, 2007 Author Posted December 18, 2007 okie dookie, thanks for your help :) This space is available for your advertisement

To rephrase my statement, does the Stinger have it? And the Hawk? The KUB has it, the Shilka has it, heck even the wrongly moddled Strela-1, with its THREE finned missile with a television seeker (because it DOES have a front hemisphere attack capability, as it was designed with that in mind) has this feature, and those are well, ancient. GGTharos Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 A stinger team could carry a dlink device, but I doubt they do; but yes, US SAMs were integrated with such networks as SAGE, among other things as far as datalinks go from long long ago. Now its link-16. Maybe the stinger-man and PIVADS aren't dlink equipped (not that I'd know much about those) but it's not like NATO forces are lagging behind in that respect. They just choose not to equip some of their units so. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
