Swift. Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 The CPHR option on the UFC Comm display, should cycle between CPHR -> :CPHR -> :CPDP -> CPHR Upon successive depresses of the corresponding UFC pushbutton. Currently this button does nothing to change the CPHR display. Whilst this would have no function in default DCS, as I'm sure you are aware Ciribob is now working on an update to SRS to allow the use of these UFC buttons to control aspects of hornets radio such as GRCV and CPHR, however the hornet lacks proper function of the CPHR window currently which blocks Ciribob's progress. Such a minor fix would greatly help SRS function as intended whilst the ED voip system is still in its early days. Not to mention that when ED voip is eventually implemented, such a fix would be used for the vanilla radio functions. 1 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
hein22 Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 What does actually the CPHR pushbutton do? The hornet encrypts COMM2 via the KY58. Stay safe
Swift. Posted March 29, 2020 Author Posted March 29, 2020 In the real hornet the KY58 can encrypt either Comm1 or Comm2. However, because until now SRS had no way of reading the UFC pushtiles (GRCV, CPHR), Ciribob just left out the ability to switch between the two and instead the KY58 in SRS would default to Comm2. In the real hornet you select which radio will feed through the KY58 by highlighting the CPHR on the UFC as per the orginal post. As Ciribob has now figured out how to read the UFC pushtiles then he could now theoretically implement a proper KY58 operation. However, the CPHR button in DCS hornet doesnt work as it should (GRCV does though). If ED simply add the ability to change from CPHR to :CPHR then we can have a fully functional KY58 in SRS. 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
hein22 Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Ciribob just told me yesterday that he can't make the ufc work. So you're saying that the CPHR pushbutton control which radio the KY58 encrypts? Stay safe
Swift. Posted March 31, 2020 Author Posted March 31, 2020 He's made a video showing it working for GRCV (on sunday), but the problem is that the CPHR function as described above doesnt work in DCS. 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
Noluck Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 (edited) I'm pretty new here and to DCS and came across this thread, reading and learning what I can about DCS and the F/A-18C. Having spent 5 years on a production line as an engineer that manufactured the KY-58, KY-58 RCU and the KY-57 back in the late 70's. I would assume that the reason for even implementing CRYPTO COMM in a game/SIM would be to limit communication between only the players that held the proper 'cipher key'? Plenty of things need to happen as in possibly a simulated FILL unit, or a working RCV mode on the '58, or... hmmm, just thinking out loud. Are there other games/SIM's that use simulated crypto for COMMS? I find this topic interesting, for sure. Swift. Posted April 26, 2020 Author Posted April 26, 2020 In DCS currently there is a 3rd party application called SRS (simple radio standalone) that does a pretty good job of simulating ky58 in most jets. The issue is that unlike most other jets, hornet has a few of its ky58 controls as part of the UFC system. So whilst other jets in dcs (a-10 for example) can have a fully functioning ky58, hornet is currently limited to only having one radio cypher able in srs, because there is no way for that program to know which radio is the selected one. This is because the cphr pushtile in hornet doesn't actually change in dcs (as explained in first post) 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
Ahmed Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 Bumping this to see if it can be added. Would be really handy for SRS and a very tiny fix for ED.
