silent one Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 Ive been away and practicing A10c for a while . I was wondering if f18 had same facility to set mark points and then attack them in a single run like in the A10c? With A10 its mega simple to programme the gdams as markpoints and attack in one simple run. Where f18 has hugely laborious when I last flew back at Christmas. Wondering if its improved . Or if indeed it will eventually have this facility in the future. Please excuse my lack of knowledge on all things f18 :)
Harker Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 We will eventually get the ability to use markpoints (not available yet), but even then, it won't be possible to easily attack all of them in quick succession, at least the same efficient way as in the A-10C. The Hornet doesn't use the SPI concept, so a markpoint needs to be designated as target point with WPDSG and we don't have a HOTAS function to switch markpoints. So you'll have to switch between them and designate each time using one of the DDIs. The Warthog simply has a much better HOTAS implementation than the Hornet. However, if you do take some time to program your JDAMs in TOO mode, using said markpoints, you can predefine a target for each bomb for a total of up to either 4 bombs with 4 presses of the pickle button only (because the coordinates are station-specific) or up to 8 bombs with some added DDI work. So you can definitely attack multiple targets in one pass if you prepare beforehand and have an efficient workflow. Alternatively, you can use the TGP to designate-and-fire in TOO mode. This method doesn't utilize markpoints, but it's easy to use. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord. silent one Posted April 12, 2020 Author Posted April 12, 2020 Thanks :) The A10c is a bit of a button press nightmare. But the markpoint system is the one thing that actually makes life easier. lol.
BuzzU Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 Thanks :) The A10c is a bit of a button press nightmare. It sure beats using your mouse. ;) Buzz
