geriescano Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 Hi everyone! I've been flying the A-10C for a while now and I noticed that upon parking and shutting down the whole aircraft, I noticed that the leading edge slats are extended. Is there any key to retract those slats prior to shutdown? I am looking at my AI wingman and his slats are retracted.
Mike Busutil Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 The slats are powered by the right hydraulic system, you are probably seeing them extended due to loosing hydraulic pressure after shutdown. Also there is no switch for the slats as the slats deploy automatically according to angle of attack to provide best airflow to the engines. eaglecash867 Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 Loss of AC or DC power causes the hydraulic system to extend the slats for fail-safe operation. When the engines are shut down, they may or may not extend as well. Frederf Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 When engines shutdown slats may or may not extend. The control valve defaults to the extend hydraulic position when electrical power is removed. However when shutting down there's also less hydraulic pressure. Looks like it's a tug of war between the system wanting to extend with its decreasing hydraulic pressure and maybe not succeeding. You could watch some videos of real planes to see what they do. The AI system model isn't as detailed.
Snoopy Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 (edited) On the real jet we have a slat safety pin we install during recovery, once installed the slats move to full up position and they stay there until we pull the pin and the jet starts back up. Obviously that isn't modeled in DCS. Edited April 17, 2020 by Snoopy v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website
