Hey everybody.

Recently got the Mustang and have been flying it around for a bit now, but I still have problems with the engine stopping mid flight.

I make sure I keep all my gauges correctly and keep them in the green where possible or at least do not exceed the limits given on the right panel.

Anybody got any tips that they found useful or has had this problem?

There are many variables here but first thing is make sure after start up you are properly idling the engine, use oil dilute as required to keep your oil pressure in the green, complete an engine warm up getting the engine up to at least 40c before moving the throttle too high.

After takeoff set rpm to 2700 and manifold to 46" until you reach your desired cruise altitude. (As altitude increases you will need to add power to maintain 46") Trim for a constant airspeed during the climb, getting too slow will cause temperature issues. Always trim the rudder for any power or airspeed changes to maintain a "centered ball".

Use auto for the radiator doors so they can open and close as needed. Throttle back to 2400 rpm and 36" manifold (max) for cruise after leveling off. The P-51 is very hands on and gives you very little time to relax and do nothing.

Keep the engine settings within limits and maintain airspeed and you will be good to go. If you ever want to fly together online and work out your issues I would be happy to fly with you.

After engine start, oil dilution isn't required if temps are high, unless its very cold.

I try not to exceed 150 lbs oil pressure in warm up.Like above, 40C oil temp before take off, no lower then 60C coolant.

Make sure, after engine start that both magnetos are on, mixture control is in Auto position(lots off ppl accidentally switching in to emergency position).

When temps are high +20C i always open coolant radiator just before take off, doors actuator is way to slow to prevent overheating. Oil radiator on Auto always.

I've tested it already couple of times, you can climb full power in p-51 with no engine damage, just keep speed above 220mph. 46"2700rpm is continuous power so you can settle at this rating after climb.

You don't need to keep everything in green, You just need to keep speed up and everything should care by itself. When changing power setting always do it in proper way, so when you are reducing power settings reduce MP first then reduce RPM if you are increasing power, Increase RPM first and MP later.

Try not to taxi or take off with wind blowing from behind this will reduce air flow through your radiators and may end up in overheat(in hot day this may lead to rapid overheat).
