ollk22 Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Hi folks, so managed to get a PS3 camera today. Within 25 minutes of being home, I had removed the IR filter and thrown my son of the PC with great anticipation! So firstly managed to install a working copy of CL eyetest. Get an image, fantastic, all good. Then the problems! Try Freetrack 2.2, select the camera and boom, crashes. I understand I need a patch for this but can I find a patch online at all? Nope! So then I try opentrack and wow, I am seeing an image with circles all over the place and lots of bouncing numbers. I figure this is going well now... But then! So I entered the dimensions of my headset, and noticed the camera refresh was about 35Hz which I thought was a bit slow.. So I increased to the advertised 75hz... I kept playing around, but when I clicked ok, the camera image went blank and the numbers stopped moving... :-( Interestingly, in settings I am still getting about 17fps from the camera, but the red flickers... The camera still works with eyetest though! Anyone help me please?
ollk22 Posted April 21, 2020 Author Posted April 21, 2020 Hmm back to 30hz (I thought it was 32) and it works... Is this right?
Rudel_chw Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Hi, You dont really have a TrackIR device, you are using a generic Headtracking .. less expensive but harder to configure. I have the same Webcam as you do, the Sony PS3 Eye, these are my settings: Your's may look different, it depends on exactly what modification you did to its IR filter. For the headtracking software, I tried the ones you mention: Opentrack and Freetrack, but in the end I liked more another one: FacetrackNoIR .. my current settings are: I used for a time a higher resolution (640x480) and also tried higher Hz (90) .. it works, but the cpu utilization is higher so in the end I returned to 320x240 and 60 Hz. On this video you can see how these settings work for me, in terms of smoothnes and lack of jitter: zZ-XCFPWXJs Hope you can get your setup working properly.
