iantron Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 I'm looking for some more information on what the alternate settings on the compass switch are for. Does anyone have any information here? This is the switch with options "DIR GYRO", "MAG", and "FAST SLAVE".
iantron Posted April 24, 2020 Author Posted April 24, 2020 Thanks! I'll have a look. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
iantron Posted April 27, 2020 Author Posted April 27, 2020 Right...so am I to assume that "DIR GYRO" means directional gyro only, "MAG" means magnetic compass + directional gyro? The labels make it sound like the F-5 just has one or the other rather than the self-correcting combination of the two...
RustBelt Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 So it's always a Directional Gyro. MAG means it's being slaved to a magnetometer source so the gyro never drifts. (Or rather rarely does and gets automatically corrected quickly) If something goes wonky with your Magnetometer, or the slaving unit, you very quickly get a useless HSI. DG is a reversionary mode that relies on you periodically re-aligning the HSI compass card with the Magnetic Float compass indication manually.
