BarTzi Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 (edited) When you lock a target with the F model, pitching the plane will affect the location the seeker head is looking at (it will try to return to the original position once the plane is stable again). It's strange to me because it isn't the case with the D model the A-10 uses , and afaik they share the same type of seeker head. *I don't expect it to behave like the TGP for obvious reasons - but I think it should be stabilized as long as I'm within the gimbal limits. The first track shows the effect of 5 degrees of pitch (give or take). The second track shows the effect of very small and gentle movements. Notice the slight movement of the maverick picture as I pitch the plane. Doing the same for the AGM-65D results in no movement of the picture at all.AGM-65F seeker not stable.trkAGM-65F seeker gentle movements.trk Edited April 27, 2020 by BarTzi
Tholozor Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Are you using realistic or unrealistic TDC slew? Just want to see if it's a possible factor. I'm not slewing the seeker head, just pitching the nose after it is pointed at a target. Edited April 27, 2020 by BarTzi
SDsc0rch Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 idunno about you but when i use the IR-MAV i just fly the HUD onto the target, get the MAV triangle near the vicinity of the target ("on" if possible) and then transition my view to the HUD - the MAV seeker "stabilizes" as soon as I move the TDC (( also note... don't keep the nose down - stop the descent and pull the nose up! everyone keeps the target in the HUD and keeps descending - not good... )) i'm not sure i'm seeing what you're seeing - it seems to "lock" into a ground-stabilized position once i move the TDC i7-4790K | Asus Sabertooth Z97 MkI | 16Gb DDR3 | EVGA GTX 980 | TM Warthog | MFG Crosswind | Panasonic TC-58AX800U [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Tholozor Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 (( also note... don't keep the nose down - stop the descent and pull the nose up! everyone keeps the target in the HUD and keeps descending - not good... )) Need to ensure the seeker gimbal stays within the keyhole, or the missile may loose lock as it comes off the rail and miss. Did you look at my track? I know this was marked as correct as it- but can someone please look at the last track I attached and tell me if that's the correct reaction to pitch? The 65D does not do that.AGM-65F seeker pitch reaction.trk Edited April 27, 2020 by BarTzi
