randomTOTEN Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Please note the dates and times in the screenshots. Public online almanac reports that June 20th, 2016 (1 day off the default ME date) is the date of the Full Moon. Does this look like midnight anywhere you live? Persian Gulf: Black Sea: Caucasus doesn't look too bad, but possibly still a little on the bright side. I don't know if this is a global setting, or specific to each map. Nevada: Thanks for checking!! :smartass:
Enduro14 Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 As having walked through many a woods at night under full moons, ya looks good to me, Especially in the Desert. Can always adjust your gamma settings too. Intel 8700k @5ghz, 32gb ram, 1080ti, Rift S
Emmy Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Having flown over the Arizona desert at night under a full moon, yes, it does look like that. The only thing missing is the proper extreme to which you can see lights in the distance. You should be able to see the LV Strip from 100nm away. Emmy Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 It’s surprisingly bright if you’ve never experienced it at altitude. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] http://www.476vfightergroup.com/content.php High Quality Aviation Photography For Personal Enjoyment And Editorial Use. www.crosswindimages.com
randomTOTEN Posted April 28, 2020 Author Posted April 28, 2020 (edited) I have flown many nights across the desert (as an instructor). It was many years ago, but I do not remember being able to determine accurately the color of the terrain like that, even under the brightest moonlight. And I don't remember a blue glow from the horizon in all directions, and no stars under clear skies at midnight. But it's been many years, and my flying is east of the Rockies now... I agree with your post... the illumination of the moon in 2.5.6 is too bright when using a reasonable gamma that looks good in daylight hours (I use 1.8 per Wags' suggestion). A gamma of 1.2 through 1.4 with moon shining looks more realistic, but I then tend to get some pretty unsightly color banding in the sky and the cockpits get pretty dark. i7 8700K @ Stock - Win11 64 - 64gb RAM - RTX 3080 12gb OC
randomTOTEN Posted April 28, 2020 Author Posted April 28, 2020 It might be fine in other phases, but the full moon is the biggest offender if this is even an issue.
