Hi All,

I'd really like to get into building missions and campaigns, particularly for some of the less loved aircraft like the MiG 15. Trouble is, I've watched the tutorials and just can't quite bring it all together to make my ideas work.

What Id like to build is this:

You are a North Korean recruit who takes part in a modern conflict (potentially as a Chinese ally fighting against Japan and US for example).

I'd use the Caucasus map as a kind of make do Korea and the campaign would ideally give the player the ability to change aircraft type. I figured this type of scenario would work from an authenticity perspective because North Korea have a large fleet of some of the older MiGs (or Chinese versions) and also the newer MiG 29 so their use in a modern conflict would serve as an interesting scenario and the assets in game would fit too.

I figured the first few missions could have you training in the MiG 15 before graduating to a MiG 21 or MiG 29 unit. Of course you could just use the MiG 29 or whatever aircraft you have from the outset but I don't know how to make this an option in the campaign.

Missions would be based around recon and ground attack for the older aircraft and air to air for the more modern ones.

Is this feasible or is it beyond the scope of campaign building? What are people's thoughts on this idea?

I feel like I'm missing out on half the joy of DCS by not taking part in mission building but it's just so daunting.

There is an older tutorial series by @Ranger79, where he builds a fairly complex mission over a series of videos ... I learned a lot from that series when I was starting to learn the Editor. They are at the beginning of this playlist:

Honestly, having a Map posing as another region, kills immersion much more than creating a fictional backstory. Same for using a too unrealistic time period.

I would try a fictional Caucasus conflict, where the southern region fights for independence from the ussr, and set on the mid 1950s .. so that you can use Mig-15 alongside AI Mig-19 and have turkish F-86 help the separatists.

You could also add a B-29 mod with urss insignia, for having period-appropiate AI bombers, and C-47 for background military traffic.

and the campaign would ideally give the player the ability to change aircraft type.

You can do that by setting the aircrafts to type "client" instead of player .. at the start of the mission you would be able to select amongst those aircrafts.

It is certainly feasible... but in my humble opinion it is better to adapt the story, than to adapt the map.

You are missing .. mission editing is almost a separate game in itself, I enjoy it almost as much as flying :)

Don try to start with a campaign, learn the editor creating single missions at first ... it is much easier.

Best regards,

Eduardo.
